A brand new 2023 Deciem launch for you! Here’s the lowdown on The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides barrier protecting moisturiser.
What is The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides?

This is a brand new addition to The Ordinary’s moisturiser line up that until now has been very limited. This new product promises twice the amount of moisturising emollients as the brand’s existing moisturiser, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA*.
This launch is in response to customer feedback requesting a richer moisturiser with enhanced barrier support for dry and dehydrated skins.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides offers:
- Triple-action approach to dryness
- Uses skin-identical Natural Moisturizing Factors
- Incudes phytoceramides which are plant based ceramides
- Plus skin lipids
Key Claims
- Immediately boosts skin hydration by 68% (independent efficacy study based on 30 people over an 8 hour period
- Helps strengthen the skin barrier, and offers all-day hydration
- Plant-derived phytoceramides help to improve the look of skin quality, for a fresher, more plumped appearance
What are Phytoceramides?
Phytoceramides are a plant-based ceramide. As you probably already know, ceramides are a naturally occurring fat that makes up to 50% of the skin’s natural lipid barrier.
Ageing and dry skin conditions such as eczema mean that ceramide levels naturally deplete. This compromises the skin’s barrier function and its ability to retain moisture and defend against pollutants and environmental aggressors.
Using a product that includes phytoceramides can be helpful for maintaining and repairing the skin’s barrier function and for moisturisation. They are great for dry, or sensitive skin but are non-drying and noncomedogenic, so great for all skin types.
Synthetic ceramides are often used in skincare, however, I think we will start to see phytoceramides (derived from plants) more and more.
My Review of The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides

This is a super rich and replenishing moisturiser and if you are looking for something really gentle, with no active ingredients, this will absolutely tick all the boxes.
It has a super luxurious and balmy texture, and a little goes a long way. I have been wearing a small amount over serum during the day for the last few days and it gives the skin the most beautiful glow and smooth finish.
It feels super comforting and nourishing without feeling too heavy, and a small amount worked into the skin will sit beautifully under makeup if you want increased moisturisation and an extra radiance.

You can use a bit more at night if you want to really amp up the moisture levels.
This will be a perfect affordable alternative to something like Kate Somerville’s DeliKate Recovery Cream (read the review here), or Sunday Riley’s Ice Cream (review here).
It’s a gorgeously nourishing formula that feels a lot more expensive than it is. It’s a great product to have in your skincare stash when your skin needs some TLC and you really want to seal in moisture.
You get 100ml for £20 and you only need a small amount, so it will last you forever! It’s definitely worth a try if you want something more than their original Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA.
I absolutely love using The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Phytoceramides when I want a lovely glossy finish to my skin. The more I use this moisturiser, the more I love it, and I completely recommend trying this if you like a rich and luxurious texture.
It would be the perfect moisturiser to choose if you barrier is compromised or you are looking to start using a retinoid product and want to really buffer the skin and provide supplementary nourishment.
