I haven’t really tried anything new from REN for a while but as soon as I saw the recently launched REN Perfect Canvas Smooth Prep & Plump Essence, I knew I had to give it a try. Here’s what you need to know.
What is REN Perfect Canvas Smooth Prep and Plump Essence?
As soon as I looked at the ingredients list of this REN Essence I knew I had to try it. It has a real cocktail of barrier balancing, smoothing, plumping, and protective ingredients which are pretty hard to resist.
It is packed with biofermented ingredients to help support the skin’s microbiome and strengthen the skin barrier. Plus it uses a blend of Hyaluronic Acid and Polyglutamic Acid to deeply hydrate and plump the skin.

Key Ingredients
- Bio-Fermented Microbial Extract – plumps and hydrates

How to use it
So this is a really easy extra step in your skincare routine. You can basically use it after cleansing and before your serum and it will work to boost hydration, support your microbiome and make all your other skincare work harder.
I tend to use it after I have toned (either acid, non-acid, or both) and simply press a few drops all over my complexion and then let it sink in for a few minutes before applying my serum.
Because it has quite a serum-y texture, I’ve actually been mixing in my Votary Hylauronic Self-Tan Drops in to it every now and then, and the combination works so well!
You can use the essence day and night if you wish.
My Review of REN Perfect Canvas Smooth Prep & Plump Essence
I have to say, this is a very easy product to love. It is SO hydrating, feels soothing and calming on the skin, and gives my complexion a visible bounce.
I love that all my skincare goes on so nicely after applying this, and when I use it, my skin feels juicy and plumped up.
As I said above, I find this is the perfect medium for mixing in my new obsession, the Votary Hylauronic Tanning Drops*. I find when I mix them into this, rather than a serum, I get a better glow with the same amount of product.
It’s the perfect next step after a gentle acid toner (I have been loving the new La Mer Resurfacing Treatment).
I love that the REN Perfect Canvas Smooth Prep & Plump Essence has a slightly thicker texture than some other essences I have used as it feels extra nourishing and plumping. It is really very lovely to use.
It feels very slightly tacky on the skin immediately after application, but this dries down to a lovely glowy finish with no stickiness after a minute or two. Serums glide on effortlessly on top.
