I love a hair oil so I was super excited to try out the brand new Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil. It’s the latest and next step in the Olaplex system. Even if you’re not an Olaplex devotee, you can still get involved. Here’s what you need to know.

So if you haven’t used any Olaplex products before, here is a little bit of background. It is loved by those that really push their hair to the extreme, especially those that go in heavy on the bleach. I don’t use the system regularly but had a demo in the Space NK pop-up salon. I was hugely impressed with how strong my hair felt and how glossy it looked.

The full range is all about repair, protection and rebuilding strength into your hair, and works to reduce breakages and dramatically improve the health and texture of your hair.

What is Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil?

For me, the most exciting part of this oil is that is provides heat protection up to 450°. As a serial user of high heat, I like to get heat protection into my routine at as many stages as possible.

  • Highly-concentrated, weightless reparative styling oil
  • Formulated to increase shine, softness, and colour vibrancy
  • Minimizes fly-aways and frizz
  • Provides heat protection of up to 450°

Where does Olaplex No 7 fit in?

If you use Olaplex as part of your salon routine, then No 1 and No 2 will be done in salon. No 3 is a mask you can use at home. Then No 4 and No 5 is an at-home shampoo and conditioner combo. The No 6 is the Bond Smoother which is a leave in treatment, also for home, that works to smooth, hydrate and protect. No 7 is the extra step in hydration, shine and heat protection, and can be used on wet and dry hair. You could skip No 6 if you needed less help.

My Review

I have been applying it on to damp hair and combing through before drying, and then also I smooth it through the dry strands just before curling. It’s so light that it’s the perfect nourishing heat protector to use before using heat on dry hair, even if you’re a few days in after washing.

I think this would work perfectly on fine hair as it is so weightless and light.  If you have thicker, coarser hair, you can mix it with No 6 as an extra boost.

  • Nice one. I had long hair but had to cut it all off due to heat damage making it knotty and ratty looking. Will investigate this before heading into heat tool territory again.
