I was excited to test out the new Guerlain L’Essentiel High Perfection Foundation because I’m a fan of the original Natural Glow Foundation in this range. This one is designed for performance and I have all the details here. Enjoy!
If you’re interested in my thoughts on the Natural Glow version that launched back in February 2019, check out Guerlain l’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation Review.

What is the difference between L’Essentiel High Perfection and L’Essentiel Natural Glow?
Choose the new formula for a natural matte look with soft radiance and extra long-lasting wear. The Natural Glow option is for you if you prefer something lighter with adaptable, buildable coverage and a dewier look.

I have shade 02N, which is the shade I usually take in Guerlain foundations:
I really like this colour on my skin tone.
Before & After Photos
This is a couple of pumps of the foundation, with no powder:
Although I was at first hesitant about this matte formula, it is actually beautifully luminous and comfortable, so I was over that quite quickly.
I use a pump of product at time, and it blends into the skin effortlessly delivering instant medium, skin perfecting coverage. It can be built up to fuller, yet still very natural-looking coverage with an extra small pump. The finish is the perfect level of radiant. This will be ideal if you don’t like anything too dewy, but don’t want anything that’s flat matte.
I haven’t needed to set it with powder, as I find that it sets itself very nicely indeed. This is my favourite scenario when it comes to foundation. I really like to avoid powder if I can (unless it’s something like the Armani Luminous Silk Glow Fusion Powder, which is a bit of a new obsession!).
It sets quite quickly, so you have less time to work than the Natural Glow version, but this isn’t a negative. I use a nice big buffing brush and the job of blending is done very easily. It makes my skin feel really very smooth, and it doesn’t ever get that dried out feeling, even after a full day’s wear.
The glow you get is really lovely. It’s not matte in a classic sense at all. It is perfectly luminous and radiant. The wear time is really great, and I find that the formula keeps my slightly oily T-zone under check without ever drying out my complexion. Even with no powder. It is perfect for my combination / dehydrated skin.
What Skin Type is it good for?
It’s a great option for combo skin, but the Natural Glow foundation might be a better option if you have a dry skin type. Having said that, this formula is hydrating, so dry skins may also like it. I don’t have super oily skin, but the shine control element could work really well for you if you do.
So, I am a little bit in love with this foundation and I think I might like it even more than the original. I need to dig that one out to check!! I just think this one makes my skin look more perfect but they are both beautiful foundations.
