I get lots of questions about my hair and what my holy grail products are, and this is most definitely one of them. I have had greys popping up since I was a teenager, so when I discovered Clairol Root Touch Up quite a few years backs, it was genuinely life changing. Here’s everything you need to know.

There has been a big emphasis on temporary hair touch up products in the last few years, and I love them for a super quick fix, but the Clairol Root Touch Up kit is actually nearly as quick and easy, and gives you a few weeks relief from those  greys. I honestly don’t want to be without it.

How To Use Clairol Root Touch Up

Make sure you check out the video for a quick guide on application and my extra tips and tricks. It is the easiest things ever!

Before
  • Patch test 48 hours before
  • Pop on the gloves
  • Dispense contents of both tubes into the mixing tray
  • Blend product together with application brush
  • Use brush to apply to parting, hair line, temples (& wherever you see visible greys in your regular style
  • Leave on for 10 minutes (15 for stubborn greys)
  • Rinse away Clairol Root Touch Up and condition
  • Dry and style as normal

I always have a box of this at home and if I have an event or shoot coming up where I need to make sure that my greys are in check, I just whip it out and get to work. It literally couldn’t be easier.

I recommend Clairol Root Touch Up to pretty much everyone that wants to cover their greys (ask my friends!) because it has clever technology that matches to all leading hair colour shades, including salon colours. So even if you aren’t quite as much as a DIY-er as I am, you could still use it in between salon colour appointments.

I use Clairol Root Touch Up in shade 5 which matches to all medium brown shades. Usually I go between 5A and 5w in the Clairol Nice’n Easy full hair colour and No 5 matches perfectly to both. I am always amazed how it does it, even after using it about 575 times!

By the way, if you’re interested in seeing how I colour my whole hair at home, check out my blog post and video showing the whole process.

Where to Buy It

  • Hi Ree,
Can I ask a general question about root touchups?
If you have a touchup spray on, can you still do your regular hair dying? or should it be washed off first?

    • good question! think it’s probably better to do it on hair without product sticking to it xx
