I get very excited about YSL foundations! From my early obsession with Touche Eclat and then the launch of its foundation to a variety of new launches since, I have always loved what YSL do with skin. The newest launch, YSL All Hours Foundation, is all about a full coverage, matte formulation that lasts all day and night.

So YSL are calling this a night-proof foundation that will survive drinks, dates and dancing. I think I might need to up the ante on my social life to properly test this out! They claim that it won’t need touching up or refreshing, and that it will stay matte, flawless and full coverage no matter what.

It sounds super impressive doesn’t it? I have even heard on the US grapevine that people are loving it more than Double Wear, and if you’re a full coverage, long wear kind of girl, that’s a big thing to say.

Although I am not really a matte girl, I am less averse to it than I used to be, so I was super keen to give this a go.

This is really easy to apply. I put a couple of pumps on the back of my hand and then buffed it into my skin using the new Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Complexion Brush which I absolutely love for foundation. There is also a charcoal infused makeup blender sponge, but I am not sure I’m a fan. It is very stiff even damp. I think I maybe need to play with it more. Let me know if you have tried it?

Basically I am loving this. I primed my skin with a really glowy moisturiser – the Erborian Glow Creme – because, like I said, I don’t like anything too matte. The foundation went on really well over the top if it. I absolutely love the way it applied.

And I have to say, with a glowy base, I love love love the finish! It sets itself without powder and still stays in place on top of loads of moisturiser. Even without powder. I love that about it. And the way I wore it, on a glowy base and no powder meant that it was still really luminous and juicy looking. Plus it is very good on my enlarged pores and my skin feels super soft to the touch.

Half & Half

I know you have been enjoying the half and half photos in my recent reviews (something I used to do), so here’s one with this foundation.

Half and Half

After a full day, there was no shine to speak of, and only a teeny tiny bit of wear around my nose where I’d been wearing my glasses and rubbing my skin, but really nothing noticeable. It’s great.

I am happy I love this foundation. I’d be so sad if I didn’t like the new YSL!

  • Hi Ree! I got a sample of this foundation and tried it on yesterday. I applied it with fingers and it went on beautifully. I am pretty oily and normally I have to blot 2 hours into my foundation but with this the oil only started to come through at the four hour mark and not in a glitter ball kind of way so I was happy about it. My only gripe is that it oxidizes terribly within minutes of application. The shade I got was the perfect match on application but about 10 minutes into it, it had warmed to a shade darker and also a tad orange, one of my pet hates. Did you find it oxidized on you too? What can be done to stop foundation oxidizing? I would love to buy this foundation as it is beautiful in every other aspect but this issue may stop me from parting with my hard earned cash.

    • I can’t say that I noticed it oxidising but they do say it is slightly darker than their other shades. If you really love it, I would dry a few shades and let them dry down for a least 10 minutes so you can see what they look like after a bit of time? A lot of foundations do change on the dry down xx
