I had a lot of requests to review the brand new Urban Decay All Nighter Face Primer so I have given it a test and here’s how I got on.
First of all, I love the packaging. It looks super cute, is really sleek and tucks into my makeup bag really easily.
What is Urban Decay All Nighter Face Primer?
The full name is the All Nighter Face Primer Longwear Foundation Grip. It is designed to:
- Boost your foundation’s staying power
- Helps makeup look fresh for up to 8 hours
- Leaves skin feeling hydrated and soft
- Sheer, lightweight texture
- Designed to prep skin and give it a lifted feel
- Reduce fine lines and erase the appearance of pores
- Vegan and cruelty-free formula
The product is like a light gel with a watery feel but not a watery consistency, if you know what I mean?
In fact, the first ingredient is water and it does have a very hydrating texture. It goes on really nicely, and feels instantly smoothing and quenching. It’s a lovely product to apply – I don’t always enjoys primers – but this has pleasurable application.
It actually feels like it sinks into the skin like skincare does, rather than sit on top of it like many primers I have tried. I think this is what makes me instantly like it. It gives my skin a lovely smooth appearance and also a little bit of a glow which I wasn’t expecting. It isn’t matte which I really like!
Before & After
Here’s the before shot with my skincare and the Dr Sam Flawless Daily Sunscreen applied:
I used a full pump, and that covered my whole face nicely. I was tempted to go back for another pump, because it’s nice to apply, but I resisted the urge as I think it’s best to avoid thicker layers of any product.
Here’s how my face looked with the Urban Decay All Night Face Primer applied:
My foundation applied absolutely beautifully on top, I went for Givenchy Everwear and I only needed a small amount, less than a full pump. I believe the primer made my foundation go much further and I got brilliant, even coverage with much less product than I normally use.
I have really been enjoying applying my foundation with a smaller brush, and in particular, the one in Real Techniques Sheer Glow Set* which is only £10 now for three brushes, a mirror and a lash curler (incredible!).
I am not sure that it made my foundation last longer, but it definitely kept my skin looking smooth and bouncy. The spot I covered on the side of my chin did work its way through after a day and evening of wearing it (no top ups) but my skin still looked really radiant and even-toned. The eye area stayed looking smooth and bright too which I was really pleased with.
Update 18th January 2020
I have used this for two days running now and it does make my complexion look really plump and smooth. I don’t think it extends the wear of my makeup though, althouth this may be down to the fact that I am using less the half the amount of foundation I normally do.
After using it for two days in a row, I have a slight suspicion that it may break me out with continued use. The areas on the side of my chin where I am prone to congestion don’t feel as smooth as normal which is usually a sign that my skin is reacting. I think this could be the silicone content, so if you find your skin breaks out at silicones, I’d side-step this one.
