Ok this is really short(ish). It is a bit less of a post and more of a fact finding operation. I hope you don’t mind!
I have been blogging pretty much since the day I discovered this amazing online phenomenon and I absolutely love it. It is all kinds of amazing and brilliant to me and I feel that somehow, after all these years, I have finally found my calling. Yay (yay yay #YAY)!!
Only thing is, more and more recently, the lovely people I meet keep telling me that I need to get into making and sharing YouTube videos. I hear this from the wonderful people I have met that are already established in YouTube and are so generous of spirit that they want to share the success they have experienced. They will know who they are!
My problem is that I am considerably older than the majority of YouTubers out there and I honestly don’t know whether there’s a place for me. I have dabbled in a bit of video over on my rather half-hearted channel  attempt (here) but I have never really gone for it.
I kind of feel that it would be like starting all over again. The thing is, I am more than happy to start over again, but maybe only if it’s something that has at least a small chance of being something that people are interested in.
Oh!! You know what I mean!!! I am rambling really but I would be really keen to hear your thoughts on this subject.
Should I stay in the written word, with my old school pics ( embarrassingly edited in paint!) or shall I attempt to add a new string to my bow???
All opinions here or via twitter (@ReallyRee) will be gratefully received. Thanking you in advance!!

  1. Youtube is a tricky one because you open yourself up to so much hate but that shouldn’t stop you giving it a go! You might find vlogging is even more inspiring for you then writing. I would say why not do a vlog introducing yourself and if you feel positive about the reaction then ease yourself into it with maybe a vlog every fortnight or so. Lifes too short to worry too much. Just give it a go and remember you can simply stop if you change your mind 🙂 xx

  2. Ree, do it.
I started fashion and beauty blogging this year and I’m also older but the response has been great and my blog is gaining in popularity a lot. So please don’t let this feeling of being older stop you.
Readers such as myself like to read/see women our own age, not 20 year olds. 20 year olds are great, but at the end of the day, I’m going to relate better to someone who is more like me. So, yeah, do it.

  3. i’ve avoided youtubing thus far but only because i like to keep a degree of anonymity with my blog, but if you feel like it, go for it! i don’t know how old you are but beauty bloggers come in all shapes, sizes and ages and personally i’d much rather watch someone my own age (34) or older as the products, skincare concerns etc are going to much more relevant to me

  4. Stop this with the age thing you are gorgeous and fabulous! and quite a natural in front of the camera so I am really surprised you havent moved into this forum before. The only thing I suggest is to make the videos quite high quality like the videos that you have been in before just so that you have that unique selling point, cant wait too see your channel. Xx

  5. I think it’s nice to have a variety of mediums, but I also think consistency is important for regular readers of your blog. What I would suggest is that if you do make Youtube videos once in a while, you should continue that. However I would personally do some written text too because I tend to read blogs in places where I can’t play videos out loud (ie, on the train, library etc).

As for age, I really don’t think that’s important. If you have something important and relevant to say, then tell the world!

  6. Id like to see you do YouTube videos. I am 34 & would like to see some bloggers my age & older doing videos about topics more relevant to my age range.

  7. Ree I don’t think you need to worry about your age. I understand it as I do too, but I am older than you! Women in their 30s+ are a huge target market for makeup & skincare brands and I think it’s really important for us ‘older’ (ugh!) bloggers to have a presence that others can relate to. I don’t know about you, but I love it when makeup counters have slightly more mature SAs as I feel they can relate to understand my issues.

  8. Of course you should! It’s not even up for debate! You’re fab in front of the camera. And the main reason why you should is PRECISELY because you’re not 17 years old, not even out of school with hardly any experience of life. I’d relate to a vlog by someone closer to my age than someone twenty years younger than me – so GO FOR IT!
