- Ginseng root and aloe vera bring visible radiance and soothing
One of the key elements to this product is the pH level which is approximately 3.6. What is even more important to consider when formulating acids is the pKa which is a measure of the acidity of weak acids. Glycolic Acid has a pKa of 3.6 and when pKa is close to pH, “there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximizing effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation.”
If the pH is higher than 3.6, salt levels would increase which causes more irritation than higher acidity.

How Does It Perform?
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is really easy and pleasant to use. You simply soak a cotton pad with the solution and sweep it across the face and neck and let it dry. You leave it on the skin and then follow with your serums and creams. I have used it for the past few nights and it gives the skin an invigorating tingling sensation which I love and I wake up to bright and balanced skin. You really cannot go wrong for £6.80!
I prefer this to Pixi Glow Tonic by a mile because I never really saw a fast increase in radiance with Glow Tonic so never felt inspired to keep using it in the long term. Also, the bottles I have owned over the years have all been different colours. The colour of the solution has changed over time too which suggests to me that it isn’t stable. Also, the pH of Pixi Glow Tonic is between 4 and 5 which, according to Deciem is too high to be properly effective and non-irritating at the same time. It is £18 for 250ml which is more than double the price of The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution.
If you have tried Glow Tonic and not been that impressed, then you really need to get on to this!
