Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner Pen Review

Soap and Glory is one of my favourite cosmetics brands, whenever I’m in need of something new, it’s my first port of call. I like the packaging- all gold and pink with 1950s styling. I like the witty names Soap and Glory gives it’s products (Sexy Mother Pucker lipgloss, Arch de Triumph brow pencil. Hohoho). I like the prices too, for example, their foundation is £12. Most importantly, some time and effort has gone into formulating their cosmetics. They generally work like they are meant to. Soap and Glory bath products smell amazing too.

So what about Soap and Glory Supercat Liquid Eyeliner? Here’s what Soap and Glory have to say about it:

Featuring our unique INKJET™ colour release & Gloss–Fix™ finish to give a rich and intense colour. The foolproof marker tip creates two looks – Fine point for a natural look or thick edge adds a dramatic flash! Uses long lasting, long wear pigments plus a high percentage of carbon black for intense colour release. The RRP is £6

Now, I’m not a big fan of felt tip eyeliner pens in general. While I love the idea as it’s so much easier than having to dip a brush and fiddle about trying to get the right amount of eyeliner, I’ve found that the pens I have tried haven’t been too great. More often than not they don’t deliver enough pigment. I quite often find black liquid eyeliner pens seem like they’re running out of ink almost immediately and the line looks more grey than black. Until now, I have been completely disappointed.

I’m so happy to be proven wrong here. Supercat gives a lovely intense black line. The nib has just the right amount of firmness and is easy to control. The tip comes to a fine point so you can make a really precise line. And thankfully, it dries quickly so you don’t have to walk about with your eyes closed while it sets.

The colour is consistent too, the black is jet black with every stroke. I compared it’s pigmentation to other pen liners I own:

I’m no expert with liquid liner, it normally takes me ages to get it right, Supercat shaved minutes off my liner routine. I found it really easy to line my upper eye and draw a little cat flick without having to go over it again and again.

So! Supercat lines well but what’s the staying power like? I tried it out on a hot, humid day, which I spent rushing about in the rain and come the evening it was largely still there. The wing had faded a bit:

It doesn’t transfer onto my upper lids but if I rub my eyes, it will smear, that’s the only downside I can see to this product. For an eyeliner that cost only six pounds I felt it performed very well.

It’s very easy to apply, great if you’re less confident with liquid liners. Because of its slight smudgability you might want to go with something a bit more robust for a special occasion. For everyday use, it’s cracking!

  • This did not last on me at all! The slightest bit of eye-watering and it packed its bags and left. It also fades quickly on me- I thought I was the only one- but a friend with dry skin tried it to find the same thing happened. Such a shame because it’s affordable and the line is a lovely matte black when you first apply 🙁

  • Lily, yes I agree the staying power is disappointing. Kiko do a similar pen which gives a lovely black line and has a bit more resilience. Might be worth a look x
