Last week I went along to a fabulous masterclass to find out all about the new Shu Uemura Colour Atelier palette system...and it’s brilliant!
With 55 eye shades and 30 blush shades, you can design your own palettes to suit your every whim! This is mine.

As you can see, there are a range of colours and textures which include:
- MATTE (M) A velvety and smooth matte colour
- PEARL (P) A silky shimmer of light for a luminous radiance
- IRIDESCENT (IR) Captivating shades offer glimmering reflections of changing colours
- METALLIC (ME) Smooth like liquid with a metallic glow
- GLITTERS (G) Abundant sparkles for glistening glamour

You just buy the palette – I have a quad which costs £10 – and then fill it with the refills of your choice. A quad can fit 4 eyeshadows (£11 each) or 2 blushes (£16 each), or 2 shadows and a blush. Entirely up to you!
The palettes are designed by Japanese architect Kumiko Inui – they are beautiful and really easy to use and organise.

Shu Uemura want to you experiment with the way you apply makeup and break some of the rules.
Here Shu’s makeup artist Mei Rees started with the dark colours to create a smoky eye and worked towards the lighter colours. I tend always to finish with the darker colours, so I am excited to try out this technique.
