I’m not usually one for a sponge when it comes to applying makeup but I was really interested to find out what this new product from Real Techniques was all about. I love their brushes already and I honestly can’t imagine them coming out with something bad. High hopes for this beauty blender.
And this isn’t any old makeup sponge! It is a true multi-tasker with very interesting contours to prove it!
It has rounded sides for blending across larger areas of the face, a precision tip (seen at the bottom of the photo) for covering imperfections, and a flat edge to get into the contours around the eyes and nose. I think that’s the face covered!
And here it is, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

I used it yesterday and I am thinking I quite like the sponge way of life, Real Techniques style. It is incredibly soft and literally glides product flawlessly over the skin. It is so soft, in fact, that when my little boy picked it up he said “Oooh soft”! I washed it immediately.
It blends foundation (I used Revlon’s Nearly Naked) seamlessly onto the skin and I can say that I didn’t miss my Real Techniques buffing brush (that I have been completely addicted to) half as much as I thought I would. In fact it is so much gentler around the eyes and mouth that in some ways I preferred it.
I have to be honest and say that I am not sure if I used all the different surfaces of the Miracle Complexion Sponge exactly as I was supposed to but I don’t think that’s anything to worry about.
The thing I don’t really like about sponges is that I always seem to use a bit more product, but to be fair I feel a bit like that with brushes too. Nothing is as economical as smoothing product on with your fingers. It is all a matter of preference really.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is a winner for me and I didn’t realise until this very moment that it is only £4.99 – way cheaper than other professional type sponges and beauty blenders I have looked at. So it’s perfect if you want to experiment with a new application method or a new beauty blender.
It should be out in September.

I can’t wait for this one to be out. It looks and sounds good.
I can’t decide if I would use a sponge or not because, like you, I was taught that they are a waste of product. I know some MUAs use them, so they can’t be all bad.

I haven’t tried using a sponge to apply make-up before and this is much cheaper than the beauty blender so I’ll have to give it a go! x
Thanks for sharing dear! Can’t wait to get a hold of one of these!

Even though I’m not a sponge girl (takes me back to my very early teens when I used to pile it on), I think this being Real Techniques and being lighter handed now, I’ll have to give it a go!

Great review Ree! RE: Ali – to avoid too much waste, make sure your sponge is dump enough before you place a foundation on it.
