Electrolytes in skincare is big news for 2020 and I think we will see quite a few products coming through using this technology. I have been trying out the Paula’s Choice Water-Infusing Electrolyte Moisturizer. Here’s how I got on.

This is the second electrolyte skincare product I have tested so far. The first is the Drunk Elephant F-Balm which I love and can be used as a night mask. The Electrolytes in these formulas work to help cells generate energy and maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance by helping to channel the water to where it’s needed.
Traditionally used in sports drinks, to enhance the transfer of water from outside the cells to inside the cells, and also help remove waste from cells, the function of these minerals is now being applied to skincare to deliver the all-important hydration that we crave.
Electrolyte skincare is most suited to people who have dehydrated skin.
What is Paula’s Choice Water-Infusing Electrolyte Moisturizer?

This product has been designed to deliver a burst of hydration for the skin in a lightweight, whipped, cream to water texture:
- Mineral electrolytes include calcium, potassium and magnesium
- They are linked with skin identical PCA (pyrrolidone carboxylic acid), PCA naturally occurs in the skin
- The Minerals boost the role PCA plays in hydration. It helps to transport hydrators ceramide and glycerin to where they are needed more efficiently
- Also features an apple and superfruit antioxidant complex for enhanced environmental defences
- Uses olive-derived fatty acids to smooth and soften the skin
- Brown Algae helps skin retains its own moisture
- Coffee seed extract for extra antioxidant protection
- Ceramides to increase moisture content, soothe and calm
- Xylitol and sorbitol (prebiotic sugars) reinforce the microbiome for stronger skin
My Review
What I really like about this moisturiser is that it has such a super light texture that transforms from a whipped gel to a watery consistency that instantly quenches the skin. We often think that when skin is feeling tight and dehydrated that we need thick, heavier creams. If your skin is dehydrated, as opposed to dry, then this light texture will work beautifully by delivering the water it needs without the oil.

It is designed to be used as the last step in your skincare at night, and I love the way it locks all serum in, without making my face greasy or sticky. I can lay straight down without the worry of sticking to my pillow case. It is an absolutely brilliant hydrator and I wake up with plump happy skin without a hint of that winter tightness.
