I went to see Kim Kardashian-West and Charlotte Tilbury in conversation at the Vogue festival as a guest of Harrods at the weekend, and I must confess, I am liking Kim even more than ever. Apparently Kanye doesn’t like her with too much makeup, in fact, she says he likes her with no makeup at all, and so she has been trying to adjust her look accordingly. She told us how she’s stopped wearing false lashes, and has given up (sort of) contouring and replaced it with nontouring. That’s a big thing coming from the woman who put contouring on the map!
Kim says she’s wearing a lot less makeup than normal these days. But let’s be real, it is probably still a lot of makeup and I am absolutely fine with that. One person’s subtle day-time look is another’s full-on out at the club look – instagram has taught me that!
Nontouring – What’s That?
So Kim explained her take on nontouring and it’s basically no contouring (but still quite a lot of contouring!!), with a lot of highlighting, or strobing as we rather fantastically like to call it. It’s all about allowing the light to play up the natural contours of your face rather than the shadows. I have to say, it’s actually a very clean look, and very fresh. I skipped the contour yesterday for this picture.
I created this look starting with the new Estee Lauder Genuine Glow products – featured here – and then layered up the highlight with my Anastasia Glow Kit in That Glow (it gives me life!). You can see a blow by blow account of products and application on snapchat (reallyree) if you’re quick. See the code below.
Apparently though, Kim still contours her nose, something I have never gotten into. She says that people think she’s had a nose job but it’s really all just contouring. So it’s definitely not a blanket approach with nontouring, and perhaps her sweeping statement that contouring was over was a slight misrepresentation. But hey, she explained it.
Charlotte Tilbury says that this ‘no makeup makeup’ look is what her new Instant Palette is all about. Personally, I am obsessed with that palette and use it every day.
What’s in Kim Kardashian-West’s Makeup Bag
It was pretty exciting when Kim revealed the contents of her pared down makeup bag for travel.
- An eyelash curler
- Mini Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Kim KW (inspired by Kim (see swatches HERE) – launches end of June
- Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes mascara (here) – she has apparently given up false lashes
- Joe Blasco foundation (I need to look into this!)
- A little MAC kabuki brush
- A gold eye pencil by Kardashian Beauty
- A small pot of powder
- A blush (which one???)
- Smashbox bronzer
And if Kim is skipping fake lashes for CT’s new mascara, it must be good. However, Charlotte did confess that Kim has the most fabulous lashes in the first place. I wonder what else is in that makeup bag? There must be more. Come on, this is Kim K!
Anyway… Kim has inspired me to go for a bit of nontouring. I don’t need any help with loving highlighter any more than I do already, but I like the idea of really letting it do all the work with sculpting. Let’s see how long it lasts.
