If you are a regular around here, you’ll know that I am totally obsessed with face mists. And this new one from NIOD is completely obsession-worthy! If you’re worried about the effects of pollution (if you are worried about ageing you should be), then this is for you. Here’s the low down on the brand new NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist. Don’t worry about the scary name – it’s just what your skin needs!
So I have been worrying about ageing for a long time. When I learnt that pollution is a serious contributor in environmental ageing and actually makes sun damage worse, I started worrying about pollution too! Oh gosh – there’s so much to worry about isn’t there?
Sadly, for everyone and everything, pollution levels are rising so it’s important to use products that factor in pollution defence. Superoxide Dismutase is an enzyme in the human body that naturally defends against the oxidation caused by environmental aggressors.
Clinical Studies
Tests have shown that skin treated with Superoxide Dismutase had an increase of 1,100% lactate dehydrogenase activity which is used to measure human cell viability. Additionally, the treated area showed a 100% reduction (to zero) in synthesis of prostaglandin E2 which is a cause and marker of skin inflammation.
In basic terms
Put simply NIOD have bottled this super-hero defence enzyme in the perfect stable high concentration and you can literally just mist it all over. Yay! Not only does NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist work to reduce inflammation and environmental damage, it also significantly increases skin hydration. YES!
NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist Features
- Dermal treatment mist
- Acts as a daily force against many forms of oxidative stress
- Reduces dermal water loss and inflammation
- Reduces radical formation within the skin, as a result of UVB exposure, by almost 100%
- Increases skin hydration by 35% immediately
SDSM (its short name thank goodness) has been designed for use twice daily after cleansing to deliver instant protection from oxidative stress, prevent water loss, and boost hydration. It feels so cooling and refreshing as you mist it on, and because it’s such a huge bottle, I feel perfectly OK about being rather generous with it!
Don’t think of this as a toner, think of it as a skin saver!
I have been working in the garden a lot over the summer, as you will probably know from my snapchat, and it is just perfect to refresh parched skin and ensure that you’re enabling your skin to protect itself from pollution as much as possible. Apart from the protection element, it makes my skin look instantly better – more hydrated, plump and dewy. Win.

Hmm! Sounds interesting but the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) claim is scary – I work in biology. Sure you’re right in saying it’s used to measure viability, but the lower the level the better. It’s normally contained within a cell, but the way you measure it is if it’s been released from the cell. I.e. the higher the LDH, the more cells that have died and burst! So saying that SOD caused a 1000% increase in LDH is a very bad thing haha
