There’s a new NARS Lip Liner featuring 11 shades designed to define and shape the lips with creamy, velvet-matte colour. I’ve been trying four shades: Ultimate Pleasure, Babylon Pink, Stormy Desert and Morocco, and have swatches of all four to share.
What Is NARS Lip Liner?

The new NARS Lip Liner is a sharpenable pencil designed to define, shape and sculpt the lips. It has a creamy, velvet-matte formula, with olive-derived squalane to help condition the lips and keep them feeling comfortable.
The collection includes 11 shades, from soft pinks and beige tones to warmer browns, berries and reds.
Key Ingredients
Olive Squalane: One of the standout ingredients in the new formula is squalane, which helps soften and condition the skin. It’s included to help the lip liner feel comfortable, lightweight and soothing on the lips.
Emollients and waxes: The formula also contains ingredients such as caprylic/capric triglyceride and candelilla wax, which help give the pencil its creamy texture while maintaining the structure needed for precise application.
Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Tocopherol is an antioxidant ingredient included in the formula.
NARS Lip Liner Shades & Swatches

I’ve been testing four shades from the collection: Ultimate Pleasure, Babylon Pink, Stormy Desert and Morocco.

Ultimate Pleasure
Ultimate Pleasure is a beige pink, making it a lovely option if you prefer a softer, more neutral pink tone.
Babylon Pink
Babylon Pink is a cool light pink. It’s a lighter, cooler-toned option in my selection.
Stormy Desert
Stormy Desert is a honey beige, and so far this is my personal favourite of the four shades I’ve tried.
Morocco
Morocco is a warm cinnamon shade, bringing a little more warmth to my selection.

My Review of NARS Lip Liner

The first thing I noticed about the new NARS Lip Liner was the texture. It’s really nice: creamy enough to glide over the lips comfortably, but not so soft that the pencil loses its shape or becomes difficult to control.
That balance makes quite a difference when you’re applying lip liner. You want enough slip to avoid dragging at the skin, but you also want to be able to follow your natural lip line accurately. I found these pencils easy to work with, making it simple to define the edges of my lips quite precisely.
The colour payoff is good, too, and they feel comfortable on the lips. I didn’t find the texture overly dry, which is always a plus with a matte-finish lip product.
I also like that the formula contains squalane, which is great for softening and conditioning. It’s always a good addition to a lip product, and I appreciate that NARS has considered comfort alongside colour and performance.
I decided to try Stormy Desert as more than just a liner. Rather than pairing it with another lip product, I gently filled in my entire lip area with the pencil. I really liked the result. It gave me a complete lip colour with a soft, defined finish, without needing to add another product on top.
In terms of wear, I found that it lasted nicely for a few hours. It’s not a lip stain, though, so I wouldn’t expect the colour to remain on the lips indefinitely once you’ve eaten, drunk or rubbed your lips. For me, the appeal is the combination of comfortable application, good definition and a lovely finish, rather than expecting it to behave like a long-wearing stain.
Overall, I’m really enjoying with the formula. Stormy Desert is the shade I’ve particularly fallen for, although all four shades I’ve tried look lovely. I can see myself reaching for these pencils both to define my lips before applying my REESON Glossing Balm which I use pretty much all day everyday, and to wear alone when I want a little more colour.

Is the New NARS Lip Liner the Same as NARS Precision Lip Liner?
NARS previously offered its Precision Lip Liner collection, which I reviewed in my original swatches post.
The new NARS Lip Liner is a separate collection with its own formula and selection of 11 shades. If you’re looking for the original range, you can still refer to my earlier review, which includes swatches from the original collection.
