If you want to get into Retinol but are worried about of the negative effects associated with its use, then let me introduce you to the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal range that I have absolutely fallen in love with.

Why is the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Range Different?

Now, I love the idea of Retinol but I have always been a little fearful of using it. I am always looking to reverse the signs of ageing but I completely lose confidence if my skin starts to get irritated or inflamed or looks dry.

Products that contain Retinol are essentially forcing your skin’s cell turnover rate to rapidly increase and in turn super-boost collagen production. This is all great and means plumper skin, softened lines and generally a more youthful glow. We all want that! But the drawback is that while your skin gets used to the change, it can get irritated, red and get the dreaded flakes, which I absolutely hate. If my skin is dry or flaky, there’s no amount of serum, moisturiser or makeup that can help it!!

It’s not just a vanity thing, although there definitely is that! Flaking skin means I can’t properly do my makeup reviews with before and after photos, because nothing works on it. So often I have chosen to avoid Retinol, rather than risk the flake face.

Retinol night cream

Back in March, I met up with Murad’s PR and she gave me the Retinol Youth Renewal trio of products. She knows that I want to avoid downtime so that I can continue my makeup reviews. Therefore, she recommended I start with the Night Cream, her favourite product.

Dr Murad’s Tri-Active Retinol Technology

There are three products in the range – an eye serum, a face serum and a night cream. The Tri-Active formula in the Retinol Youth Renewal range has 250% more skin renewing power than traditional retinol and three different actions:

  • Time-released retinol means that the active is gently delivered in manageable doses over time
  • A Retinol booster improves skin’s absorption of the retinol making it optimally effective
  • A fast-acting retinoid boosts cell turnover

On top of this, and the best part for me, this super-trio is buffered by gentle hydrating ingredients that make sure you don’t get the flake. And seriously, not once has my skin felt irritated or angry. It has been remarkable!!

My Review

So as recommended by Murad’s PR, I started with the night cream which is an absolute delight. It is buttery and creamy and everything you want in a gentle night cream except it has Dr Murad’s incredible Tri-Active Retinol formula. I used it after my regular Hyaluronic Serum, went to sleep, and when I woke up, not only was there no flake, but my skin looked soft, bouncy and happy!

I carried on with the night cream for a couple of weeks and then got brave enough to use the eye serum. Now, let me tell you – the eye serum gives the best tingle. It’s a very satisfying tingle, but I did worry that it was pretty strong. But lo and behold I used it and still no irritation! So I ploughed in with the face serum the following night, before the moisturiser, and now have been brazenly using the trio ever since!

I have never loved my skin more. It is smooth, bright and glowy. Obsessed! I genuinely feel like this is the retinol product for me. And I just found out that the serum is THE number one Retinol product in the U.S. so I am not alone! Also, can we talk about pores? Mine have never looked better.

What’s really cool about Retinol is that it works on more than just wrinkles. It addresses a whole host of skin concerns including skin texture, tone, general skin health and the appearance of enlarged pores. I think my pores bother me nearly as much as lines, so this is major for me!

If you’re scared I’d recommend starting like I did, with the night cream. And you could definitely stick there because I saw lovely results very quickly. If you’re braver, I’d go with the serum. Then use a regular night cream after you have let it sink in for twenty or so minutes. Even though this formula is super gentle whilst being wildly effective, I’d still recommend going slow, because I did, and only good things happened! The optimal combo is using all three, but you can definitely use any of them in your current routine if you don’t want to go the whole hog.
