There’s a new mascara on the Max Factor block and it is very very good!  Max Factor know their mascaras. In fact False Lash Effect is one of my all time favourites. So I was super excited to try out Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara. Even though that is a bit of a mouthful!!

So what’s the deal here? Max Factor Excess Volume is a 2 step mascara. Step 1 builds volume and Step 2 glosses over lashes for a jet-black lacquer top coat. Mel Arter used it at London Fashion Week Felder Felder SS14 show and describes the finish as ‘wet-lustre’.
I am extremely happy to see the Max Factor False Lash Effect brush in the Step 1 end (left) of Excess Volume. It’s an amazing brush that volumises and lengthens and the formula here is thickening with wax, dark pigments and volumising spheres.
Here is Step 1 on the left eye as you see it. A very dramatic difference I think.

And here it is followed by Step 2, the gloss top coat.

Impressive don’t you think? It is fairly hard to capture the glossy finish on the lashes in a photo. but it is definitely there – see photos below. Step 2 works by coating the volumising base coat with a “thinner than usual” mascara that glides across the lashes without disturbing the under layer. This seals the lashes and creates a wet look effect. Once it is dry it feels almost patent-like if you touch it.

I am totally loving this mascara!! Little note: you need to remove it using an oil-based makeup remover.
Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara Review launches in January 2014 and will cost £12.99. I’ll give you a reminder nearer the time.

  1. I just tried this mascara this morning and didn’t achieve anywhere near the volume you have. Did you curl the lashes first?

  2. I had an awful job removing the mascara. Thankfully I have just seen that an oil based remover is needed. Otherwise I had fantastic lashes.
