Mary Jo K Kylie Lip Lit Review & Swatch

OK! So here is round two of my Kylie Lip Kit attempts!!  I tried, and for the most part, failed with Kourt K mainly because it is such a dark purple colour that it is pretty impossible to wear unless you have the right skin tone, or you like a edgy, grunge look. That’s not me. But a good red is me, and Mary Jo K is a good red! Phew! I am finally seeing some return on the extortionate prices and unpaid custom fees I have shelled out.

If you fancy seeing “the mother of death” as Ben termed the look, then check out my Kourt K post, but Mary Jo K is feeling a whole lot more like me! It is a bright true red and I love it.

I actually think the formulation of the lipstick is far superior to Kourt K. It probably has a lot to do with the pigment, but I found the purple shade pretty hard to achieve a smooth, even-toned finish. Mary Jo K went on very easily and evenly with my first try.

My lips are in slightly better condition than when I had my first brush with the Kylie Lip Kit, but the fact that I only needed one coat for even colour meant that it felt much lighter and more comfortable. Also it didn’t feel or get chunky. Great!!

I love that is becomes properly matte within a matter of seconds and it is very long lasting. With food and drink, it does start to wear in the middle of the lips after a few hours, but that’s easy to fill in.

The downside is that I really noticed the smell of Mary Jo K much more than Kourt K. It is pretty stinky! You know that artificial sweet smell that makes you think of chemicals? It is particularly strong when you first open the tube, and then it dies down a bit. Once the lipstick has dried down, I don’t really notice it all. Which is a relief because I hate that smell!

I am now really excited to try the Kylie Lip Kit in 22 which I also have. That’s the only other one now, because every order I have received, I have ended up getting stung with unpaid custom fees, which is not only is expensive, but also a total bore! You can find Kylie Cosmetics HERE (when and only when it is in stock and for the 10 nanoseconds before it sells out again!). Shipping to the UK is a bit of a gamble but I do recommend Mary Jo K if you like a good red! If you’re quick you’ll be able to catch me demo-ing it on snapchat – username reallyree.

PS. Don’t even think about trying a Lip Kit if you don’t want it on for long. Even the swatch was nearly impossible to remove and the inside of my arm is still red. You need oil and a muslin.

  • Did you notice any difference in colour or in the general look when you use the liquid lipstick by itself without the lip liner? I’m curious as she sells them separately and I’m having troubling deciding whether or not to purchase the kit or just the lipstick by itself. Thank you 🙂

    • I think you could skip liner or use one from a different brand. It is probably just easier to get that one for the colour match and the fact that lining first gives you a more defined finish. Hope this helps x
