How to use Marc Jacobs Cafe Extra Shot

- For light to medium buildable foundation, I dot the product on all over the face using the flat edge of the doe-foot and blend out with a foundation buffing brush
- For concealing under the eyes, I use the flat side of the doe-foot to swipe on the product and then tap it in with my fingertip to blend. The brand suggest using a lighter shade than your skin tone for extra brightening under the eyes
- For covering pigmentation, I dot the product with the pointy tip of the applicator, let it sit for a minute, and then lightly press it in. The longer you leave it (within reason), the more coverage you get.
Before & After Photos of Marc Jacobs Cafe Extra Shot
I have shade Light 140 which I think works pretty well for me. I am quite happy to use the same shade foundation as concealer, but anyone that prefers a lighter shade concealer may find themselves wanting two different shades.

My Review of the Marc Jacobs Cafe Extra Shot

First of all, the packaging looks super chic. I love the gold cap, and frosted glass – it looks really luxurious. There’s a doe-foot applicator attached to that gold cap and the bottle contains 16ml which is just over half the size of a normal foundation.
The doe-foot applicator makes this really easy to apply. I just swipe or dot it on all over my face if I want to use it as foundation and then have been using my Love is the Foundation Brush by IT Cosmetics* which is one of my absolute favourite tools for blending foundation.
Blended out like this, you get a nice light to medium coverage that’s really skin perfecting, and great on the look of enlarged pores. It gives a lovely natural skin effect, with a soft radiance.
I then go in with more product as a concealer – under the eyes, on redness around the nose and chin and straight on to any spots of pigmentation. If you leave it for a short while, you can get enhanced coverage, so I find this really great to do on my areas of pigmentation.
For concealing, I definitely recommend fingertip blending for the best coverage and finish. It has a lovely creamy texture that’s really nice to work with.
The Coverage and Wear
For reference, I find as a foundation, it is more light to medium coverage, and it’s fuller coverage as a concealer.
I set under the eyes and the t-zone with my new favourite powder, the DIOR Powder-No-Powder. However, if you are oily, you may need something a bit more heavy duty to tackle shine or product movement.
Something to note for different skin types: the formula contains some coconut ingredients, and I know that a few of you with acne-prone skins can struggle with. I am not saying that this will break you out, but it is just something to be aware of.
I like way this foundation/concealer wears on my skin throughout the day. I did need to top up a little in the areas I conceal, but that is pretty normal. It gets a little glowier, which I like, but nothing wildly shiny. The pores stay blurred really nicely too, which is very pleasing.
I have tested it on a dewy base (Ultra Violette Queen Screen) and a more matte base (Ultra Violette Lean Screen) and I am pretty sure that I prefer it on the more hydrating base.
I can’t really decide if I prefer this as a foundation or a concealer, but for some reason it is definitely a question I keep asking myself. If it’s foundation, then this is a very small bottle, and if it’s concealer, then it’s very big! I’d be very interested to find out how much one bottle lasts if they are using it as their main complexion product every day.
