MAC Helmut Newton is a limited edition collection and the result of a collaboration with, you guessed it, world-famous photographer Helmut Newton. It celebrates his work with packaging that displays images of his “erotically charged” work. Here’s a look.

The collection itself uses a range of limited edition colours that capture Newton’s style – “stained lips in sultry rouge, darkening eyes in black and white and nails lacquered in colours inspired by Monte Carlo and Berlin.”

I have press samples from this collection so don’t have any of the outer packaging that features Helmut Newton’s work. As far as I can tell, it is only the cardboard that features his photography or influence which is a bit of a shame, because once you have removed that, it’s all very plain.
I have two items from the collection, the Point n Shoot Eyeshadow quad and the Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick in Self Portrait.
MAC Helmut Newton Collection Swatches
Point n Shoot:

Although it is pretty simple, I actually really like the quad because all the textures are soft, creamy and pigmented, and it’s great to have some good quality matte neutrals. It doesn’t do anything groundbreaking, but it’s a good palette. Much better than the Brant Brothers one in terms of depth of colour and pigmentation. Thank god Carbon isn’t in there. It’s my least favourite MAC shadow ever!
Self Portrait:

I’m a big fan of the Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks and the shade Self Portrait makes quite a statement. It’s a beautiful deep plum shade and perfect for autumn and winter.
The MAC Helmut Newton collection launches in the UK 6th October 2016. Find it HERE.

The eyeshadow colors are gorgeous!

There’s nothing that on first appearance gives the ‘wow’ factor, although the packaging is gorgeous. Having said that, that eyeshadow quad is so wearable!! Sometimes new collections don’t need to be all glitz and glamour but functional and to the point. xx
