The pack you see in the picture is all you need to worry about. You just pull off the lid and replace it with the applicator nozzle that automatically blends the hair colour and the developer as you dispense it.
Here’s a closer look.

It is pretty incredible. You just take it out of the box, pull off the storage lid, pop on the applicator nozzle and start to dye.
L’Oreal Mousse Absolue Home Hair Permanent Hair Colour is reusable so you can use as much or as little as you like and save the rest for next time. This means it is perfect for root touch ups or people with ombre hair who just want to freshen up the base colour. That is me on both counts!
If you are just covering greys (me again) you can literally just part your hair, apply and massage it into where you need it. Advanced multi-tonal technology means that it blends and tones into your hair so there’ll be no ugly lines or patches. Excellent!!
The formula of the L’Oreal Mousse Absolue Home Hair Permanent Hair Colour is amazing! The mousse itself is really firm so they’ll be no worries about dripping and spills.
There’s also a gorgeous Satin Touch conditioner in the pack which is deeply moisturising and conditioning for beautiful results.
It comes in 14 colours, grouped into Blonde, Red and Brown shades. I have been told I am No 500. I can’t wait to try it!
L’Oreal Mousse Absolue Home Hair Permanent Hair Colour is out now at Boots and Superdrug for £8.99 which is a special introductory price. From May 2013 it will retail for £10.99.
Well done L’Oreal Paris – this is sure to be a winner!

Please let us know what you think! I am very curious
At last! I’ve been waiting for a product like this for so long. I touched up my roots a few days ago so won’t be trying this for a couple of weeks but I shall let you know how it goes.

Yes please do! xxx
It’s LETHAL, just took mine back to boots. Stinging eyes straight away, couldn’t breathe in 5 mins. Had to wash off pretty fast. I have been using hair dyes for 30 years and never had an affect like this. Very fit. Don’t know what would happen if you had asthma.
Oh no! I haven’t had my sample yet as they were out of my colour. Will need to check this out!
you took it back after you used it :/ ?
Boots and uk trading standards checking this product out. I thought it would be ideal as I need to do roots every two weeks. If you try make sure you have windows open and be ready to wash out quick 🙁
I just tried this out in the brown 500 – I’ve used loads of hair dyes and I can honestly say this is the WORST I’ve ever used. It had no effect at all, I’m going to have to do my hair all over again with another product. It has not even covered 10%, I can’t believe I’ve wasted even £8.99 from Boots on this stuff, and that was on special offer. I’ve just wasted an hour of my life. I read on the l’Oreal reviews section of their website it says it doesn’t cover 100% greys – but I’d love to know where it says that on the box and insert. It actually says on the box ‘perfect grey coverage’ and then in small print ‘up to 70% of greys’. Well it did not cover even 10% and its supposed to be permanent, so stronger than semi-permanent. Quite franky I want my money back. I note that all the reviews on the l’Oreal website are also negative (1 star out of 5) bar one, so it made me feel that it wasn’t just me.
Don’t waste your money and stick to the colourant you currently use until L’Oreal can improve on this product.
So sorry to hear this. I am still waiting for my sample so really can’t say.
I loved the Wild Ombre kit so had high hopes

Ditto to everything the above person wrote. Absolute rubbish, i want my money back!!
It doesn’t cover gray at all……0% and the box says it covers gray beautifully……I’ve been coloring my hair for 35 years at home and professionally, this product is a very bad reflection on a company name I thought was trustworthy. This is the second product in the L’Oreal line that was defective. I’m not happy about this. First thing Monday I am going to call customer service. If my concerns are not addressed properly I will be starting a Facebook campaign to protest.
ABSOLUE rubbish…..the fumes from this product are overwhelming…..however I preserved for the recommended 30 minutes……the result is very very poor…..little to none grey coverage and the grey coverage it did give was a different colour to the rest of my hair…..it left my hair greasy and lank….and had to wash again without conditioner to get some of this awful product out of my hair!!!!!! Use this product at yr peril…..LOREAL sort yrselves out!!!!!!!!
Totally agree!! made my hair feel like wax , had to wash my hair 6 times to get the crap out and my hair stayed the same with the grey roots! was a great idea but rubbish is not the word for it and the price it was! never again ..
I am also really disappointed. I was so excited when I saw the advert for this. I hate getting my grey roots through every 2 weeks and using a whole box to cover them – I thought this was the answer to my prayers!!
I tried it yesterday – just to cover my roots… but when I washed my hair – it looked absolutely no different! The greys were still there. I am going to try it again this week and leave for longer, put more on etc.. but it is such a shame. I found everything else about it brilliant – easy to use, good application – but if it doesn’t cover the greys – whats the point!!
Does not work at all I took mines back to Boots and the lady there said mine was not the first. The fumes are dreadful your head fries and to top it off it doesn’t actually colour your hair-rubbish

Usually I would bleach with the L’Oreal perfect blonde, then use my hair dye. BUT OMG I used the natural blonde 700 and it stung soooo bad, I couldnt believe it. I dyed my hair extensions, & the color came out great but, the fumes from this dye is unbelievable and I have never reacted to dye before so was SHOCKED. I love the color though.
OMG I would caution anyone not to use this product. I started using the mousse and I thought I was going to die. I couldnt breathe it was so choking ammonia fumes they smell toxic! I am still shaking and it was 30 minutes ago. I know all hair colors have very strong odors I have been coloring my hair for 30 years but this is unreal. They are sitting on a massive lawsuit. I wont use this again!!
so dissapointed wast of money, been waiting for years for this. I could not wait to try it put it on my hair waited thirty min could still see the grey left it for longer after an hour thought I had better wash it off what a wast of time. I think that boots and l,oreal have made a lot of money out of us I think it should be taken of the shelf.
I followed the instructions on the packet and thought how easy the product was to apply…. How wrong!
I waited 30minutes and started to wash my hair until it ran clear and thought it was strange that no colour came off my hair. I rang loreal straight away and she said that it must of not pierced the colour part if the product and only the developer must of gone on my hair. She as advised me not to re-colour my hair for 6-8weeks!
I have very dark brown hair with grey roots so not a great look to have to walk around with. I am considering re-colouring it after only a couple days after the disaster can anyone advise me if this is dangerous to do?
I am pleased to read I am not the only one who was so disappointed with this product when you only need to do your roots it sounded ideal but the colour part failed to activate and only white foam came out so my roots were bleached and looked worse than before. I could not get through on the phone so I e mailed only to be told my grey must be very resistant. What rubbish the product doesn’t work and L’Oreal should ownup to the fact.
This product is RUBBISH! Do not waste your time and money. No change to hair coulor at all. Roots still dark, they did not dye at all. I have no greys so that wasnt the problem. Feels greasy on hair also.
It’s rubbish, doesn’t cover greys. The worst dye I’ve used in over 20 years of dyeing!!
wish id read all these comments before i wasted my money and time on this awful product ! great idea but doesnt work at all. No difference in my grey roots and my hair felt greasy and lank. DONT WASTE GOOD MONEY AND TIME ON THIS STUFF ITS USELESS !!
I have used blonde 1031 to cover slightly darker roots. Application was easy and straightforward, did not notice any excessive fumes, and the end result was perfect. Only gripe is that the roots started to show again after 2 weeks, so will leave in longer than 30 minutes next time. Does not say anywhere how long you can safely leave the stuff in the container before it explodes or becomes ineffective, though, which would be useful.
i agree with the above that it doesn’t cover grey’s, i was so looking forward to this and now disappointed as it is a lot of money to waste, i like the concept of re-touching the roots when ever needed was great but no point if it doesn’t work…
Was thinking about using this product but after reading all the reviews. I think I won’t waste my time I will stick to what I’m using. Thank you everyone.
This appears to have covered my grey but it left my hair greasy and lank. I have yet to wash it again properly so I will see what happens. No time saving tho so I will be going back to my usual colour. Probably take this back for refund too!
i also wished i had read reviews before wasting my money, i had no problem with any stinging or burning and the smell wasnt too bad but for grey coverage this is useless and the feel of my hair after was waxy, very weird, the only thing i liked about this was the smell of the conditioner!!! i now have to buy another dye to do it again,i shall be sticking to olia in future
I will never touch this again. 20 minutes in I had a severe reaction to this product, causing an all over body rash and sickness. Quickly popped a piriton and got it off. Rash disappeared after 20 mins and stopped feeling ill after an hour. It didnt even work in the slightest on my grey areas!
Went to a salon today for a patch test as now terrified to colour my hair, but have had no reaction. Very very odd, but its a product i will never touch again
its brilliant – i used light golden blonde to correct a very ginger hair dye gone wrong thanks to nice and easy natural blonde – actually ginger !
I used absolue 1031 and it turned the ginger into a lovely yellow blonde.
fab – although it didnt cover my greys if it did then it would be the perfect dye. At the moment i keep a tin of it to cover up any diasters
Love it so easy to use pperfekt coverage
I applaud the idea of a re-usable product which avoids unnecessary waste and should therefore be of better value to the customer and more ecologically friendly, therefore I was keen to try this product.
It states on the box ‘perfect grey coverage’, however it does qualify this in very small text at the bottom of the box, where it also says ‘If you have a lot of grey, this shade will provide perfect grey coverage on up to 70% of greys’. I did not find that it achieved even 70% coverage. In fact it made very little impact on any of the grey hairs, which once the mousse was rinsed out and the hair dried, appeared totally unchanged. I would add that I followed the instructions most carefully.
I must admit to being extremely disappointed with the result achieved and will be returning to my former brand, having I feel, totally wasted the money spent on the product and my own time.
looks and sounds really good but from past experience i do not trust Loreal hair colours, i will trust my instincts and stay away from this one
I’ve been dying my hair for 20 years, and you know what.. L’Oreal is good for presenting products but NO good for what inside… Tried a few different colours, no difference , washing off after 2 days, no grey cover. Use Schwarzkopf
I used this product at first time, and I don’t buy it eve again, I washed my hair 2 and my hair still greasy and lank…. horrible I want to cry.
Oh OK I thought it was just me! I love the idea that you can reuse it more than once. I like my hair the day after I have finished colouring it but once I washed it (day later) my grey hair showed up again!!! Then I thought maybe I did not do it correctly the first time so the second time around I watched the You Tube video (I did exactly as video instructed) and guess what? greys showed up again after second use/after hair wash with gently shampoo. Loreal, you must improve on this product or take off the shelf.
Just literally tried this product and after 30 minutes I didnt notice any difference… went from a medium blonde to the icy light blonde hoping it wouldn’t be too too light…but in actuality nothing changed…sure smelled strong, I wonder if they forgot an ingredient (haha)…its unfortunate because I have had far better results with cheaper lines….great idea but I think they need to go back to the lab and fix it…
Have used this product twice to cover my grey. It hardly worked the first time and I had to re-colour my hair. I just tried it again, with only slightly better results, but still loads of grey showing and I left it on for 45 minutes instead of the recommended 30. This despite the package clearly stating ‘perfect grey coverage’. I guess my definition of ‘perfect’ is different from L’Oreal’s. The idea of this product is great, but I’m going to switch back to my regular less expensive Nice n’ Easy.
If anyone from Nice n’ Easy is reading this, please develop a similar re-usable product using your 10 minute root coverage formula!!!!!
I have been coloring my hair regularly for a few years now and I have never had my hair turn out as badly as it did with this. I usually go for reds but decided to try a brunette instead and the color did not set on half of my head leaving me with chunks of a black/brown a lighter brown and red throughout my entire head that just looks trashy. I do not recommend this hair dye at all.
The product was very easy to use but it DID NOT COVER MY GRAY AT ALL & my hair smelled so bad afterward, I washed it 5 times in the following 2 days. HORRIBLE PRODUCT!! I will stick to another Easy product.
The idea was very good. No mixing, no dripping, and able to use to touch up in between color. Unfortunately it did not cover the gray. I had to do my hair again the next day with a different product. Would love for L’OREAL to improve the product.
This product was recommended to me by my sister as we liked the idea of having the extra to use at a later date for root cover up. I am greatly disappointed in this product however, as it made my hair feel like paste while rinsing , and it left my hair feeling greasy, and dull, with no shine or luster as it normally has after other hair colorings. I will NEVER use this again and I don’t recommend that anyone else try it either. A total waste of money and time. I can’t return it as I threw out the receipt, so it was money thrown away!!! You need to fix a number of your poor products L’OREAL. Color doesn’t stay on as long as other products do either so I am going back to my old brand of hair color!!!
Such a shame – I used it once just on roots and found it ok – but very strong!! So many people have hated this!!
I rarely leave comments on products. Matter of fact, this is the first time. This is the worst product I have ever used. It covered very little of the gray. It is waxy and it took about four shampoos to get the waxy feeling out. The dark blonde is very dark brown and the color is very uneven. To top it off, I paid $30 for this product just to have to do everything over again. I wish I would have never purchased. Please stay away from this product!!
This product stinks and was not worth the money!!! I agree with most of the other reviews!! I was excited to find a product that was less messy and used it very carefully and followed the directions perfectly. I thought it was strange that the mousse was white with only tiny bits of tannish brown colorant coming out with the foam. When I rinsed no color came out with the water–strange again!! After I dried my hair no greys were colored and my hair looked the same as before. I tried a week later to do it again and with the same results. What a waste of my precious time–I had a really short haircut a week later to start fresh. No more L’Oreal haircolor products for me!! I bought two boxes of this on sale and will try to return the other box. I really liked how easy the mousse was to apply and the conditioner was great
…. but that is all!!
I used 600 on my medium brown hair to cover my gray. I found no harsh smell, no stinging, was very easy to use but I didn’t use the whole bottle. as my hair falls just above my shoulders. After rinsing and drying I noticed right away that it hardly covered any of my grey strands in my part line. I will try it again, don’t know if it was the wrong shade or what the problem was.
I also noticed no color rinsing down the drain at all like it was a color-less mousse.
