I was so happy to try these new matte lipsticks from Lipstick Queen because I love Poppy King (the lipstick queen herself) and if there was ever anyone with a true passion for lipstick, it is her. So as you may have guessed, the line up is inspired by the game of chess – from shades, shade names and the packaging (which is stunning by the way).

What’s even more fun is that there are some rules of the game. You basically select the colour that you are most attracted to and then turn it upside down to find out which chess piece it is. Poppy has given each lipstick a personality and so you can use them to get a deeper insight into your own personality. I like it!

What do these lipsticks say about their wearers?

I think these lipsticks would make really good gifts as you could use your knowledge of someone’s personality for a really thoughtful gift.

The formula is gorgeous. It’s a matte that doesn’t dry out the lips as it is enriched with natural oils, waxes and vitamin E to hydrate and nourish.

I love all these shades. I think if I had to pick a favourite it would be the mauve of Bishop which means I am determined. I like that! I also really love Pawn for an every day shade, and both King and Queen are my perfect statement lip shades. But I think Bishop will please a lot of people.
