I get so excited about foundation and have given this new one from Laura Mercier a few little goes. The verdict? I definitely like it!! Check out my review, with before and after photos, of the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid Foundation.
So what’s it all about?
Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid Foundation – The Promise
This is a “long-wear, oil-free foundation that magically blurs the line between real skin and makeup”. It is quite a liquidy little number but you have to shake it to activate the formula. I find that the more you shake it, the thicker it gets, and I like it thicker. It is much easier to control. It delivers a matte, yet radiant finish which can be built to full coverage very easily.
Now, when I met Laura Mercier, she said that this foundation is best applied with a sponge. Which I should probably try. However, I kind of accidentally-on-purpose forgot this bit of advice, because I am just really not a sponge kind of girl. I like brushes. It’s an addiction. And the one I find perfect for this job is the Real Techniques Multi Task Brush.
I am sure if Laura says a sponge is best, then you should definitely try it, but the Multi Task Brush is working for me!

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid Foundation – Before and After
I think the finish is absolutely beautiful, even if I did use a brush! The coverage is really very good and I didn’t need to use a concealer, except for under my eyes for added radiance. It covers redness very easily, blurs lines, pores and imperfections, yet looks so natural on the skin.
It is also very buildable for when you have any particular concerns you need to cover, or if you prefer a fuller coverage look. Here’s a couple more drops added, mainly in the centre of the face.
I think it still looks really fresh and natural. This isn’t a foundation I would want to powder as I think it has the perfect finish alone, and it is lovely and long lasting, even though you don’t feel like you are wearing anything.
Here it is with the rest of my makeup:
I am a really big fan of this, and it’s the one I keep reaching for right now. There’s one hitch though – after you shake it the product starts to spill out which means a bit of mess and a bit of waste. No one likes that! I am coping with it, and I think it’s one of the problems with ‘shake to activate’ formulas. However, the longer you shake it, and the slower you open it, the cleaner everything is.
Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid Foundation is available now and comes in 24 shades. It costs £35 – find it here.
