When I saw the new Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder online I had to order it because it’s so beautiful! I chose the shade Devotion, which is a stunning pearlescent pinky shade. Here’s a look at it along with photos, swatches and my thoughts. UPDATE now in the UK here!

Isn’t it pretty? For a highlight magpie like me, it was just too much to resist!
Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder Features

- Long-wearing formulation
- Buildable and versatile highlighting powder
- Uses pure light-reflecting pigments for a colour-true, multidimensional, luminous finish
- Non-dusting texture
- True to pan colour payoff
- Designed to complement all skintones
- Formulated to bring natural-looking radiance to the complexion
- Gives an instant glow that lasts up to eight hours
Now the idea of a ‘natural’ looking glow wouldn’t necessarily interest me because my highlighter obsession (detailed here) has gone way beyond the natural look, but as this is buildable, I couldn’t see a problem!
Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder Swatch – Devotion

So this looks a bit sparkly doesn’t it? I think this could definitely put some people off. I applied it to the tops of my cheekbones with a Zoeva highlight brush, and I thought it looked really pretty but actually a lot more subtle than I anticipated.
Top Tip
I went in with a damp beauty blender, pushing it into the skin and then layering it up a little bit. And I started to like it a lot more. It blends with the rest of the makeup beautifully and you can build up the highlight much more. I love it like this and I find the pinky hue of Devotion really flattering and quite unlike anything else I own in my rather vast highlighter collection.
I found it really long lasting and liked it every time I looked in the mirror! For a stronger highlight, I suggest applying with a damp beauty blender, letting it set, and then doing your bronzer and blush etc, for a more blended look.
I think it’s a tad pricey and the packaging is a lot bulkier than it needs to be, but I am glad I own it and am feeling rather pleased. I should add that this does not emphasise my enlarge pores at all which is quite a win.
The Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Powder is $44 and is available to order online HERE in the US and here in the UK
