I have had lots and lots of requests for a review of the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm, so here it is. There’s a video too!
So! I really do like this new complexion product, even though it wasn’t at all what I imagined it would be. With a name like ‘Balm’, I was expecting something super sheeny and dewy, however this is definitely more of a velvet matte finish. Anyone else surprised?
But as much as it was a surprise, it really wasn’t a bad one because this product delivers such a pretty finish on the skin.

Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm Swatches
I have two shades to show you – Light FB 04 and Medium FB 5.5:
It’s a super emollient texture when you put your finger on to it. And then it softly dries to a soft velvety finish.
Before & After
As you will see in my video, I started off applying Light 4, but it looked too light, so I finished off with Medium 5.5:
Now I really liked this foundation but I have a couple of reservations after my first full day of wearing it.
When I applied it for the second time, I went straight in with 5.5 and was happy with that match which seems to work well with my darker hair, and deeper fake tan. It provides really good, full coverage, but I think it needs setting if you use a generous amount of product to minimise transfer.
It gives a nice velvety, luminous finish that’s softly matte. After a couple of hours, I think it gets a bit glowier, which I really like.
It isn’t particularly longwearing I don’t think. I wanted to do a little top up after about 4 hours and I think this is where I started to see a couple of issues. When I touched up, I felt like my skin seemed a bit drier, and then a couple of hours after that, the foundation had grabbed a bit to the dryness around my nose. It was nothing major, but I could see it when I looked up close and I am thinking if you have patches of dry skin, it might not be so good for you.
It continued to look smooth over my lines and pores regardless, so I was really pleased with that.
I still need to test it more, and find the perfect way to apply and touch up, because I love the way it looks on my skin after it is applied and I got lots of compliments on it at the breakfast event I attended. Perhaps I need to make sure I set it around the T-zone so that touch ups aren’t necessary. I’m going to keep trying it and report back. I have also heard that it’s gorgoeus over Rose Prism Glass Glow so I am going to try that next.
I kind of think this would be perfect for someone with normal skin – not oily or dry – if that actually exists!!
How Much is Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm?
The foundation is £42 at Space NK and it comes with a really good mini brush for application.
