Seeing as Kat Von D is coming to the UK, I made even more of a bee line for the brand when I hit Sephora in New York. As complexion is my favourite makeup topic, this time I picked up the foundation. Here’s a look at the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation with swatches and before and after photos.
UPDATE: You can buy the London’s Calling set HERE – a cute set of liquid lipstick, lipstick and liner – that will give you a taste of what’s to come.
This is an intensely pigmented, full coverage, long-wear foundation, which always gets me very interested.

Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation Swatch
I had to make a fairly quick decision in the shop when I chose the shade but I think I did OK. I went for 44 Light Cool. Here’s the swatch of it.
Before & After Photos
I love the way this foundation applies. You need the tiniest amount to get brilliant coverage as it is so densely pigmented. I used half a pump and a buffing brush to work it in and it smoothed over the skin with ease. It feels a tiny bit sticky for a little while after application but this soon goes and I actually didn’t really feel the need to powder it. I might if I thought I was going to be out for a really long day, but only lightly.
Using a small amount, and not powdering, turns this matte foundation into one with a very soft glow which I absolutely loved. I actually didn’t even used concealer and I felt my skin looked lovely and fresh.
I think it is well suited to my combination skin and even survived tears (don’t worry I only slammed my finger in a door, cried like a baby and then got over it two minutes later!). I only needed half a pump which is great, but I think the problem some people could have is it would definitely be very easy to end up with too much on your face as it is so thick.
