So! After a few months of some more mainstream, wearable collections that perhaps some of the hardcore Illamasqua fans found just a little too ordinary, we are back the realms of ‘statement making Illamasqua’ with a whole collection of all blue everything in Illamasqua To Be Alive. If you ever wanted to rock a blue lip, then now is certainly the time!

Illamasqua To Be Alive Collection Review

I must confess, I’m a big fan of the more mainstream beauty looks that we have seen from Illamasqua more recently. And as a someone more into a beauty look, than a makeup statement, I felt super comfortable with the beautiful Glamore Nudes collection and also loved the new cream eyeshadows. Before then, Illamasqua always had that ability to scare me a bit, and I think we are nearing that territory again with Illamasqua To Be Alive.

Alex Box, Creative Director say, “To Be Alive is a raw state full of living, movement, life, feeling, spirit, and emotion. It is the freedom to surrender and to be still. A maelstrom and a moment. The forces that move us to be chaotic yet peaceful. We are always in emotion and in motion”.

Now, even though I am finding all the blue a little scary, I actually really like the shades in this palette. There are 3 powder finishes and one cream shadow:

  • Cascade – irridescent white powder eyeshadow
  • Awaken – iridescent icy blue shimmer cream eyeshadow
  • Inspire – a rich royal blue powder eyeshadow
  • Refine – matte navy powder eyeshadow

I am obsessed with Navy eyeshadow and ever since I played with the UD Electric palette, I have realised hat bright blue really suits my eye colour, so I actually think this is a palette I will get lots of use out of. The cream shadow will make an excellent base for building up the look.

Illamasqua To Be Alive – Vendetta Lipstick (£18.50)

This intense electric blue lipstick is in the Illamasqua Glamore formulation which delivers a satin-finish. I love the formula but honestly really not sure about this shade. The girls at the press day looked amazing with the Vendetta blue lips, but I am just not sure it’s for me.

Illamasqua To Be Alive – Prismatic Nail Varnish (£14.50)

We are back into the wearable stakes with this polish and I think this is going to be a very pretty colour for summer.

Illamasqua To Be Alive – Iridesce Shine Lipgloss £18

I haven’t actually tried this out yet but this is a new lipgloss formulation for Illamasqua.

It promises to be lighter than the original formula and uses shine effect light reflecting technology to provide a super shiny finish (alone or over lipstick) with a non-tacky feel.

So what do you think? Personally I can’t wait to get the palette on my eyes.

Illamasqua To Be Alive collection launches 1st May 2015. Find Illamasqua at Selfridges and ASOS.

  • Cannot WAIT to get my hands on that lipstick, I already wear discipline tons. I wouldn’t call it a smurf look btw, just because people are dull as dishwater doesn’t mean they’re a joke. Without interesting brands like these we’d all be stuck with a sodding nude eye.

  • I’m not afraid of a bold lip or blue lip, that’s why I love Illamasqua, but I’m not sure if that particular shade of blue would suit me. I’d love to try it on still x

  • I know what you mean, i’m a little reticent about buying it without popping to selfridges first to see the actual tone, as my teeth are a bit yellow and I fear it to need bright white gnashers

  • I was really going off Illamasqua, I loved them because they were daring and, as a goth, I felt they were the cosmetic company for me. Then they started producing more ‘safe’ colours and it looked like they were losing their way but this collection has restored my faith a little and I’ll be looking forward to buying every little bit of it!
