I am a big fan of this brand, and I loved their Caution Extreme Lash Mascara. So I was super excited to get hold of the brand new Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara. I have everything you need to know here, along with before and after photos.
Update July 2020
I have to say, I am a mascara girl. I can’t pull off that edgy, fashiony look with bare lashes I think because I have the kind of lashes that were born for mascara. Mascara was invented for girls like me. My lashes are fine with washed out looking pigmentation, but with mascara they come to life – they thicken up, they show their full length, and I get the depth of colour that I lack naturally.
I’m not sure why I am waffling on about that in this particular post, but I do think it’s something I have really noticed in lockdown, where wearing makeup hasn’t been the every day norm. I now know that I definitely feel prettier with mascara.
Also the name of this mascara is pretty apt! The Hourglass Unlocked mascara comes along just as our lockdown here in London and the surrounding regions is lifting. It kind of feels rather poignant. Also, it is suppose to give you a lash extension look, and extensions are something that we haven’t been able to have, so even more relevant!! Anyway…
What is Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara?
Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions MascaraSo one of the first things you need to know is that this is what’s generally referred to as a tubing mascara. That means that when you want to remove it, you simply wet the lashes with warm water and then the mascara slides off in tubes. It has been a while since I have used one like this, so it’s even more exciting. They are usually pretty good for staying put, yet areb easy to remove which is always a bonus.
- Formulated for more definition, more lift and more length
- Transforms lashes with impossibly real results
- Uses film-forming technology
- Coats each lash in lightweight fibers that lock in place
- Delivers a high-impact, fanned-out finish and smudge-proof wear
- Molded brush targets every lash
- Removes easily with warm water
- Ophthalmologist tested
- Vegan and cruelty free
In terms of application, Hourglass recommend applying the Unlocked Mascara by starting at the base of the lashes and pulling the brush straight through from root to tip.
One coat promises an instant effect, but you can layer up for more intense definition, length and lift. If you want even more drama, use a lash curler – I didn’t because I’m a bit phobic when it comes to those contraptions! Apparently I am missing a trick!
Before & After Hourglass Unlocked Mascara
Here’s bare lashes:
Here’s one light coat:
And here’s two coats for a more intense effect:
And here’s both eyes done with two coats:
I love the brush on this mascara. It coats and extends the lashes effortlessly. I prefer two coats, as I always do with mascara. I find that you get the real definition and lift with the second coat, where the brush really grabs on to the lashes and extends and curls. The formula is super black which I love, and you can place the lashes where you want for a really open-eyed look.
The formula is fairly life-proof and doesn’t budge or smudge which is perfect for summer, long days, or nights out. The lift and curl is really long-lasting, and it doesn’t flake or crumble at all. Also the lashes stay feeling flexible and aren’t crunchy or crispy, so you hardly know you’re wearing mascara – it’s very comfortable.
And the real bonus for a long-lasting mascara is that it’s easy to remove. As I said at the top, it is a tubing mascara, so you simply need to wet the lashes with warm water, gently massage them between your fingers to slide the tubes of mascara off the lashes and wash them away.
This is a real win for me, I can’t find any faults at all right now.
