I am literally obsessed with Rouge G by Guerlain not least because the cases are spectacular, but also because the shade range is just beautiful. The good new is that there’s a brand new matte texture called Guerlain Rouge G Luxurious Velvet. I have details and swatches here.
What is Guerlain Rouge G Luxurious Velvet?
Luxurious Velvet is a 2021 take on a matte Rouge G lipstick and it comes is four shade groups – reds, pinks, browns and nudes:
- Designed to deliver exceptional softness, comfort
- Velvet matte finish
- Highly saturated, pigmented formula
- Formulated for long wear – 16 hours
- Infused with nourishing mango butter and mattifying silk wood extract
- New bullet shape with a rounded base for hugging the lip contours, while its pointed tip for a precise lip line
- Available in 15 shades
- 6 new velvety cases
- Cases are upcycled collector cases

- 880 Ruby Red – red with a touch of blue

My Review
- Creamy, balmy texture
- Light feeling on the lips
- Easy to apply, line and define
- Don’t dry out the lips
- Colour lasts really well
I am really enjoying the formula of the Guerlain Rouge G Luxurious Velvet. It glides on to the lips effortlessly and is instantly opaque in coverage.
If you use a lighter hand, you can go for a more sheer and diffused effect, or layer up for a more intense finish. The sensation does not feel matte in the slightest, and it has that nourishing, balmy texture not usually associated with matte finishes.
I love the new shape of the bullet. One swipe easily covers the lips and the pointed tip makes getting into the cupid’s bow and contours of the mouth an absolute cinch.
The formula does transfer when first applied, and there is no transfer proof claim, so this is fine. Plus, in spite of this, the colour is long lasting and when it does fade, it does it evenly and it stays looking nice and smooth on the lips. Love it.
