I was super excited to attend the launch of the latest innovation from Dyson. It is always exciting when Dyson launch something new! I have now been using the Dyson Corrale Straightener for over a year. Here’s everything you need to know.
Dyson researched this new product for almost ten years. I watched the livestream presentation from James Dyson, and you can’t help being drawn into the wonder of all the technology.
Let me break it down for you.
What is the Dyson Corrale?
Addressing the key facts that to straighten hair, a combination of heat, tension and control is required, Dyson have worked to serve all these up in the perfect proportions.
This is a straightener that offers brand new straightening plate technology, intelligent heat control, and a powerful battery with a flight safe mode, so you can board a plane with it in your bag. You’re looking at about 50% less damage than a classic straightener. Keep reading for more details.
Dyson Flexing Plates
The brand call this their Corralling Plate Technology which uses a manganese copper alloy plate with six different metals for optimum flexibility, strength and thermal conduction.
The plate material, and their ability to flex around the hair section and gather the hair, means that heat is applied evenly to the entire section of hair. With traditional straightening, the strands at the sides of a section tend to escape and as a result are less bulky, so they don’t get straightened as well. This means you end up repeating the action and applying more heat.
It’s a bit like when you try and cook something with different thicknesses in a foreman grill. Some bits get burnt while you are trying to cook the raw bits that haven’t reached the heat yet. I think that’s the first time I’ve mentioned a grill on this blog!
Intelligent Heat Control
The Dyson Corrale has three precise heat settings – 165°C (330°F), 185°C (365°F) and 210°C (410°F). This means you can pick the perfect temperature for your kind of hair, and the style you want to create. If you want to smooth and straighten, but not flatten, then choose a lower temperature.
The key difference is that a platinum sensor allows the temperature to be measured 100 times a second and it is controlled accordingly.
Cordless & Lithium Battery Powered
Dyson has used all its expertise in batteries gathered from the development of cord-free vacuum cleaners, to perfect the cord-free aspect of the Dyson Corrale.
It is powered by a four-cell lithium-ion battery, which delivers the same thermal performance of a corded product. This also means it has universal voltage so you can take it anywhere you go. Additionally, it has a flight mode feature which ensures it meets air travel standards and can be packed in cabin luggage.
Full recharge time is 70 minutes for 30 minutes of styling. Just to give you a guide, my full head of hair was styled at the launch event in about 15-20 minutes, so there’s plenty of time for a full style.
If you did need extra time? The genius part is that the charging cable can be connected to the straightener for instant power. Excellent!
My Review of the Dyson Corrale
I have been using these straighteners and off for about a year now, and I think they are fab. They make my hair really shiny, the style lasts well, and I can curl, kink and straighten with them. It’s extremely versatile.
What I love most about is the control you have over your hair. With most other straighteners (apart from the Steampod because it has a comb) the hair falls out as I am working on a section.
The Corrale literally grips each section and the sides of the hair never fall out. It makes styling really efficient and you never have to go over a section more than once.
It’s kind of genius and something I only really notice now when I use regular straighteners that just don’t control the hair as well.
