Dior’s latest foundation launch is framing itself as a bit of a technology breakthrough and for quite good reason as Diorskin Star Foundation using a whole new approach to light reflection that really does make sense.

It promises the “instantly perfecting radiance of studio lighting; the lasting luminosity of advanced skincare.” Exciting!! Here’s the low-down.
Dior has infused Diorskin Star Foundation with two-dimensional light for a whole new way to glow. Traditional light enhancers used in makeup can give you a shiny look or not enough diffused light, and Dior thinks that they have managed to harness technology to bring us the best of both worlds.
Diorskin Star Foundation – The Texture and Formula

The Diorskin Star Foundation formula comes as a weightless fluid that contain intelligent pigments with skin care benefits. It promises to deliver light-boosting radiance, neutralise colour imperfections and correct textural unevenness.
The texture is super light. It glides easily over the skin and has a really smoothing and brightening effect that really doesn’t look like foundation but just a unified complexion. How the light-reflection is different to other foundations is in the Light Pulsion Complex. Normal radiance enhancers typically contain filled spheres that can create a bit of a shiny, mask-like effect, or hollow spheres that produce softness on the skin yet lack radiant intensity.
Dior has solved this problem by creating a perfect balance between the two by using new-generation, titanium-enriched spheres that combine “softly diffused radiance with a long-lasting intensity”. Colour filter pigments detect imperfections in the skin and create the optimum light conditions to re-balance discolouration and enhance the contours of the face.
Diorskin Star Foundation Before & After Photos

I really like this on my skin. It gives a flawless effect without making me look like I am wearing much makeup at all. I definitely think that my skin looks light-boosted and radiant. And I love that this foundation has real skincare benefits.
Diorskin Star Foundation – Skin Care Benefits
A trio of powerful active ingredients that promise to increase skin radiance over time:
- Immortelle flower acts on the stratum corneum to encourage cell renewal
- Daisy extract regulates melanin to minimise dark spots
- Liquorice extract to boost microcirculation and combat redness
Tests showed that after 4 weeks, the radiance levels and smoothness of the skin improved by 50%.
Diorskin Star Foundation – The Shades
12 made-to-measure shades that adapt to the subtleties of every skin tone, for a warm-toned glow. The shades have been developed to stay true.
Diorskin Star Foundation Fluid Foundation Sponge
Designed to be used to apply Star, is a brand new foundation sponge in a teardrop shape – the Backstage Pros’ Fluid Foundation Sponge. It’s a ‘soft touch’ ergonomic sponge which moulds itself the features of the face, and blends for a ‘diffused starlit’ finish. You use the wide part of the sponge to blend Diorskin Star from the centre of the face outwards, and the tip to get to difficult to reach areas around the eyes, nose and lips.
Diorskin Star Foundation – Tested for Photogenic Qualities
Now this is really interesting. Dior decided to evaluate Diorskin Star Foundation from a photogenic point of view. Dior pinpointed 5 major photogenic criteria:
1 – Interaction with light
2 – An even complexion
3 – Smooth skin texture
4 – Well-defined surface texture and volume
5 – The overall harmony of a face and the balance of colour and light, defined here as “symmetry”
Using these criteria, Dior developed the measured photogenic effect and used it to test the skin both before and after foundation application. Improvement of the five parameters was measured using a scoring scale defined by a dermatologist, demonstrating a 24% improvement in the overall photogenic index. This also improves over time, as with the skincare clinical trials, and improvements increased 50% after 28 days of daily application.

Is it semi matte? Is it anything like the new EL Perfectionist foundation? Medium coverage or sheer? Is it suitable for oily skin?
It is actually matte but still very luminous and it deliver a medium to full coverage without looking like you are wearing a lot of makeup. I would say that it would be ideal for oily skin as I used quite a lot of moisturiser underneath it and it didn’t break through. It is kind of invisible the way Perfectionist is.
That looks gorgeous!
Yes it’s lovely! xx
Just one quick question, I am not sure if you tried the Diorskin Forever yet but the Forever offers medium to full coverage, so I am just wondering does this offer medium to full coverage?
Yes I know Forever. The coverage is similar but this has a more matte finish although still luminous. x
the shade looks perfect on you!! Notice any white cast though?? Since it contains a spf of 30
No not at all 🙂 Thank you!
Wow it looks amazing on you! Radiant without being too wet-looking. Would you happen to have a picture of the ingredients btw? I really loved the finish of Diorskin Nude, but the high alcohol content was a bit worrisome. Fingers-crossed this won’t be the same.
Have you tried Dior nude? I wonder how these shades compare to shade range in Nude. I wear Linen 021 and would love to order Star online without trying it but don’t know should I stick to the same color.
I use the same shade in Forever and it is spot on in Star. Does that help? x
thank you!!!
Hi! Thank you for your review….if you had to choose between this foundation and the Tom Ford Traceless which one would you prefer? Also how do they compare to the Charlotte Tillbury foundation? Thank you!
I think I prefer this to Traceless but not as much as the new TF – Traceless Perfecting.
Charlotte T Light Wonder is glowier but perhaps not quite as long lasting. Does that help? xx
Hi I had a sample of this foundation and I loved it, I was just wondering what is the colour range like? I wear the dior hydra life bb cream in luminous beige and its a perfect match it has a pink undertone, but ive tried the forever and there all quite yellow based I was wondering are they the same shades and still yellow based? X
I think the shade is pretty similar to my Forever in the same colour x
Hi
I have dior natural radiant foundation and am Ivory. Are the shades the same with this foundation?
I think so but I’d recommend getting shade matched to check x
Hi,
I heard the hype about the new YSL Fusion Ink foundation so collected a sample and asked for a sample of this Dior Star purely because it was on the next counter. I am wearing it for the first time and immediately love it! I didn’t rate YSL Fusion Ink at all, it was so watery and thin, it did nothing for me. I almost wonder if I got a duff sample it was so bad!
Star is head & shoulders above the rest (I’ve tried loads of foundations). It’s too early to tell if it will last as long as I want it to (16hrs) and I am yet to try it with a primer but I am very excited about having discovered Dior Star 🙂
Which foundation do you prefer, Dior Star or Clarins true radiance? AND do either beat Giorgio Armani Luminous silk? Questions, Questions! Lia x
they are both gorgeous foundations!
I think that the Clarins is a bit wetter if you know what I mean? More of a moist finish, whereas Star is pretty matte and I have to make sure I have moisturised. Both glowy but in different ways. Star is fuller coverage I think.
I haven’t used LS for ages!! I love it because it has no SPF – I must get it out again to try. Out of the 2 I would say Star is closer to LS.
Does that help??? xxx
Thanks for your help, I’m currently researching the best foundation to wear for my wedding :-))) xx
good luck!! If you like glowy – CT Light Wonder is worth a look!
Thanks for all of your reviews… which foundation would be best for filling in large pores?? And not too dewy?? The Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting?? The Starr?? Or ??
both are good for pores – TF is more dewy although Star is more matte but still glowy.
If you like powder, the new Clinique powder is very good on pores – https://www.reallyree.com/clinique-anti-blemish-solutions-powder-makeup-review

Do you prefer the Dior Star or the Estée Lauder Perfectionist more?
I’m trying to decide between Dior Star and Estee Lauder Perfectionist. Which one do you like better? – Melissa
I think I prefer Star (think!!) – it’s so hard but Star is matte but still so glowy and gorgeous!! I don’t have the right shade is Perfectionist (still!!) so really hard to say!
hi
i have been using armani luminious silk and im in love , been using 5.5 shade.
want to try something new, what would you recommend similar to LS?
is dior nude or dior star similar? whats the difference between these two?
many thanks xx
Dior Star is my favourite at the moment – velvet matte but luminous. I am 020 in it. I haven’t seen 030 so I am not sure. I always prefer to go a bit lighter and then use bronzer to warm things up. xx
thanks for your reply!!
Would you say the Dior Star is similar to Armani Luminious Silk ?
xx
yes it is similar – I think it has more glow, and also it has SPF which the Luminous Silk doesn’t xx
also, i have been matched 020 dior star/nude but find it too light, would you go with 030 instead?
thanks! x
