Dermalogica have launched a brand new serum created specifically for the neck area and it is fantastic. I have been trialling it since the beginning of December 2020 – just over five weeks at the time of writing. Here’s the low down on the Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum. Whether you have neck concerns already, or want to avoid them in the future, this is for you.

Skin on the neck is problematic for a number of reasons. First of all, it is naturally thinner than the rest of your skin in terms of the epidermis and dermis because, due to the nature of the neck area, the skin needs to be flexible.

Also, anatomically, the area is literally covered in muscle from the chin to the jawline and over the collar bone. These muscles constantly contract as we talk and move, making the neck seriously over-worked.

Combine these factors with the modern phenomenon of tech-neck (which now affects the younger demographic) and the fact that we often tend to neglect our necks when it comes to skincare, you can see how it all starts to suffer. It is definitely the area that concerns me most.

What’s really interesting, and something I never knew before, is that when we’re young, the skin on the neck is actually a lot more elastic than skin in other areas, so the decline in the quality of the skin as we get older is down to premature ageing.

BUT! The fact that this is a premature ageing issue is really good news because it means we can do something about it.

What is Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum?

This is a serum and skincare tool in one, designed to keep the neck area fit and contoured.

My Review

As I said at the top, I’ve been testing this serum for just over a month and I am properly hooked. This is for a few reasons which I want to explain.

Firstly, the ageing of my neck area is one of my main skincare concerns, not only because it really lacks hydration, but also because I’ve always hated my jawline / neck definition ratio! I have always joked that my chin connects directly to my collarbones! Because I naturally lack definition there, it was always going to be a problem area for me as I age.

What I love about this serum is that it forms a tightening mesh as it dries which instantly lifts the skin whilst delivering a major hit of hydration. It’s perfect because it’s long lasting hydration which prevents the ‘crepey’ appearance I can suffer with, and also the mesh flexes with the skin. This means I can’t feel it at all.

Having tried lifting products in the past, I associated them with a tight feeling, a bit like dried egg white on the skin, and I was worried this would be similar. The good news is that once you have applied and roller’d in the serum, you can completely forget about it. You just have a lovely lifted and hydrated appearance.

My application tricks

I love the rollerball on the Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum. It delivers the most enjoyable massage as it works the serum into the skin. You need to keep your head elevated until the serum dries. What’s great is that the massage is so pleasant, I get a deeper muscle relief with my chin raised, and I get carried away with the massage.

Before I know it, the serum is dry and the treatment is complete. All the tension in my neck is softened, the blood supply is boosted and everything feels so much better.  I often do the massage morning and night whilst having a little lay down on my bed. Why not?!

The other reason I love this serum is that it undetectably creates a shield to block the pollutants that cause premature ageing. We all need that. Also, Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum sits beautifully under moisturiser so you don’t need to worry about layering.

How to Use Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum

The serum is really easy to use. You turn the nozzle to the ON position, squeeze out a bit of serum and roll it on to the neck. Turn to OFF and then continue rolling upwards toward the jawline with your head tilted back using firm pressure.

How to use the Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum

As I said earlier, you just need to keep the chin up until the serum is dry. Then you can follow with moisturiser at night, and SPF for day.

Just make sure you don’t use any other serums under or over it. You want this to be your only serum to allow it to do its work optimally.

Top Tips for the best Neck Care

Obviously, if you want to ensure your neck stays in tip top condition, or you want to see improvement in tone, texture and elasticity, then it is vital to use an effective product like this neck serum from Dermalogica.

However, there are some additional things you can do to preserve the quality of the skin.

  • Wear SPF every day
  • Avoid spritzing fragrance of the area as the perfume leads to photo sensitivity making skin more vulnerable to UV damage
  • Use regular massage to soften tension and boosts blood supply to the area (hello new Neck Fit serum!)

Where to buy Dermalogica Neck Fit Contour Serum

The new serum just launched and is available in a 50 ml tube with a stainless steel roller applicator for £75/€89 at Dermalogica.
