When I first read about this product, I really didn’t think I would like it. Whilst I often use a micellar water before cleansing, the idea of a gel just wasn’t too appealing to me, but I think I have changed my mind! Here’s the low down on the brand new Clinique 2 in 1 Cleansing Micellar Gel.

Clinique are dubbing this as ‘double cleansing made easy’ but I would only really recommend using this as a makeup remover (and a very effective one) before you go in for your proper cleanse.

How it removes makeup

We hear about Micellar technology all the time, but in case you’re not entirely sure what it is, here’s a recap from Clinique: “Micelles target oil and dirt while simultaneously dissolving impurities from the skin. When applied, the micelles open, attach to makeup, dirt and debris, then close up and are swept away.”

It is completely genius if you think about it, and when I used the Clinique 2 in 1 Cleansing Micellar Gel as my first cleanse on a full face of makeup last night, you can really see that micellar technology in action.

I popped a small bit on a couple of cotton pads for my eyes and it pretty much melted off about 90% of my eye makeup in a couple of swipes. Then a applied a blob all over my face and massaged it in. You are supposed to tissue off, but I didn’t fancy that and rinsed it off over the sink.

Does it work?

You know how when you remove your makeup with an oil or balm and everything gets very murky and there are lots of beige-y muddy splashes all over the sink until you rinse it away? Well that didn’t happen with this at all. It was like the gel just ate the makep! As it rinsed away, everything looked really clean! To check, I ran a couple of dampened cotton pads over my face and they came back with hardly anything on them. It’s impressive because I had quite a lot of night time makeup on!

I then cleansed with a balm and toned as usual and my skin was gleaming. It is SUCH an effective makeup remover. I am really (unexpectedly) impressed! I tried it the following morning as a light cleanse and then tissued off. The skin was clean but I prefer the feel when I rinse it.
