I absolutely love Bourjois’ Rouge Velvet matte liquid lipsticks and now there’s a new product joining the family – a soft sheer ‘souffle’ take on a matte lip. Sounds so good! Here is the low-down on the brand new Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet liquid lipstick. I have swatches of all the shades for you.

I was really interested to try these because the idea of a sheer matte lip finish is something a little different. Sheer is usually associated with glossy, sheeny finishes and with matte I always think of bold opacity. However, Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet fuses the semi-transparency of a balm with the long lasting hold of a matte finish. Interesting!

It is such an interesting texture and if you’re a fan of the matte finish, then it could be the answer to a lighter and softer look for Spring. I struggled at first because I kept trying to build up the intensity, forgetting that this look is all about the sheer. One coat of this is enough as if you layer too much it can build up in the centre of the lips a bit. But for the sheer look, you don’t need to layer! I just needed to remember that!

Also, I think Bourjois could probably have gone for a few less shades – as 05, 06 and 07 are very similar. My favourites are 04 Ravie en Rose and 07 Plum Plum Pidou.

  1. I picked up five of these on the back of your swatches! I only picked one out of #5-6-7 cause they’re much of a muchness by the looks of it, and I left out #1 cause I don’t think the orange hue will do me any favours, but loving the rest. Great texture, and I love the subtle bit of colour, which I find a bit easier to wear than full on punchy colours.
