I’ve always had the dream to have beautiful curly hair. My hair was always poker straight, lacking volume and style. Three years ago I took the plunge and finally permed my hair! Yes – before you ask – perms do exist in 2016 and they are better than ever. However, I quickly learned that caring for curly hair is an absolute nightmare. There are very few products on the market for people who want to enhance their curly hair. They tend to have a straightening or frizz-free focus, when what I need is a product that will take my curly hair and make it better.
Enter Bouclème, a British brand conceived, created and manufactured in the UK. They are a curly hair brand that really understands the needs of curly hair. Their mission is to take all the difficulties of caring for curly hair and make them disappear. They focus on a ‘3 step system’ which consists of cleanse, condition and define. They are designed to give your hair moisture and nourishment, for beautiful, shiny, curls. You can imagine that I was all for trying this system. The question is, did it live up to my expectations?
We have to start by mentioning the gorgeous packaging! The bottles come in this gorgeous pastel design, with each product having its own colour. The pastel colour is finished with a gorgeous white stripe, which runs around the bottle. The bottles are finished with simple black text to describe each of the products. Swoon-worthy!
Cleanse –Bouclème Curl Cleanser
The cleanser (or shampoo) is created with a “zero foam” formula. This is to ensure that the product gives you maximum hydration, as foaming products often strip the hair. When the moisture is stripped from your hair, your hair becomes dry and frizzy, meaning that your curls look a little chaotic. The shampoo itself is created with argan, virgin coconut oil, honey, aloe vera, linseed and pomegranate extracts. It’s incredibly gentle and light, meaning that you can use it every day without it weighing down your hair. The scent of the Curl Cleanser is gorgeous, including notes of citrus, spearmint and magnolia leaf. It smells spa-like and it really lingers in your hair!
Condition –Bouclème Curl Conditioner
You can use the Curl Conditioner in two ways! If your hair is very thick you can actually leave it in your hair, to enhance the condition of your hair over time. I questioned how possible it is to leave a conditioner in your hair, but this formula is actually very light and it’s almost imperceptible when you’re washing your hair. If like me you have finer curls, Boucleme advise that you simply wash it out. The conditioner is rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9, vitamin E and antioxidants – which ooze moisture into your hair, strengthen the hair and also protect it from environmental stressors.
Style –Bouclème Curl Defining Gel
This step is the one I’m always going to be critical of, as I find that it’s so difficult to find good products in the style category! This product is a ‘Defining Gel’ which set alarm bells ringing in my head. Normally gels are thick, hard and sticky in the hair but this Boucleme product is dreamy. I simply poured some of the gel onto my hands and rubbed it between my palms, it feels incredibly light and not at all sticky. Following the instructions I combed the gel through my hair with my hands. I then dried my hair and I was left with beautiful natural curls – without my hair looking greasy or feeling crispy.
I’m sat here sniffing my hair as I write (as you do) and it just smells gorgeous. I’ve never known a haircare brand to linger on the hair like this. The results are great too, I’m talking about beautiful curls, which are not crispy, and hair that feels nourished! I now have my eye on the other Bouclème products in the lineup.
