5 Dreaded Eyebrow Mistakes To Avoid!

You’re never fully dressed without perfectly preened brows (who needs a smile when you’ve got fierce arches, right?), but there are certain pitfalls which could leave your brows looking a million miles from that gorgeous celeb-worthy finish. Unless you’re channelling *that* guy from Breaking Bad, of course…

1. Over-emphasising

Though make up pencils are often labelled as ‘crayons’, there’s a reason your brow products aren’t made by Crayola! They’re not intended to be dragged over their canvas (i.e. your lovely eyebrows) repeatedly, heavy-handedly leaving behind masses of colour. Imagine your brow pencil or brush of choice is like a feather in your hand – light sweeps work best, and will leave you with a more natural finish.

2. Under-emphasising

Like so many things in the beauty world, eyebrows are all about that happy medium! Have you ever seen a photo of someone with their brows edited out? It’s bizarre how much of an impact eyebrows have on shaping and defining your face (sorry, Miley!). Unless you’re incredibly fair and pale, don’t neglect your brows and please, never bleach them!. You’ll upset them!

3. Trying to make them look like twins

“Your brows should be sisters, not twins” – we’ve heard it a thousand times. But it’s a beauty mantra that shouldn’t be ignored! Very few people have totally symmetrical faces, including eyebrows, so don’t worry about it! As long as you follow the natural line of your brow, work with a light hand and pick the perfect colour, you’ll be just fine. Think Beyonce and Solange rather than Mary-Kate and Ashley. 4. Plucking before a bath or shower

If you’re getting ready for a hot bubble bath, resist the temptation to pluck your brows beforehand. Once you’ve enjoyed your soak, the added heat and moisture on your skin helps those pesky stray hairs to be plucked out nice and easily! Plus, if you have fairer brows it will be easier to spot the damp hairs – just make sure you’re not too sleepy after a relaxing bath. It’s a recipe for a plucking disaster!

5. Buying into brow gimmicks

Things like brow stencils and special shapers seem like a gift from the beauty gods, but think about them for a second – if your face doesn’t suit the specific shape of the stencil, it will make your brows look totally out of place! You’re much better off spending time studying your eyebrow shape and working out what will look best for you. Those dream brows will be yours – just leave your pets out of it!
