I always get loads of questions about how I maintain the condition of my hair, even with all the colour and heat I use. It’s all down to care, which is especially important in the colder months. So I thought I’d create my Winter Hair Care Guide for you with all my favourite products. Enjoy!

Why Does Your Hair Need Extra Care in Winter?

During the winter months, hair can become dry and undernourished. Have you ever noticed more breakage and split ends when the temperature drops?

The combination of going from cold environments, straight inside into our centrally heated homes can do the same to your hair as it does to your skin. It tends to zap moisture and leave it feeling and looking dry and lifeless.

I know loads of you switch up for skincare routine with the seasons, and I think it’s a great idea to do the same for your hair.

Top Tips for Winter Hair Care

Our locks need a bit more TLC right now, so these tips can really help maintain the condition of your hair and give you great shine.

Save hair washing until the end of your shower

This is something I have started doing recently and it really helps maintain the condition of hair. Hair is more vulnerable to damage when it’s wet, so I try to limit how long it is wet for. I make sure I always use high quality products. Because my hair has gotten so long in lockdown, I have been using the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Pro Longer range* a lot more.

The shampoo works really quickly to cleanse the hair and scalp and the conditioner and mask are super nourishing so you don’t have leave them on for too long. This means they save precious time, and reduce how long you have to leave your hair wet for.

Use a Masque weekly

I think masques are an amazing addition for winter hair care. Make sure you add in a professional quality masque so that you get results quickly and you don’t have to over-use product. As I said I have been using the Pro Longer* one because my hair is super long at the moment but I have a couple of other really good recommendations for different hair types.

The L’Oréal Professionnel Serié Expert Absolut Repair Gold Mask* is a major hair treat that I have a low key obsession with. It is actually gold! This is one to pull out if your hair’s looking particularly stressed. It uses Gold Quinoa and Protein for a serious dose of hydration and helps to enhance elasticity and shine.

In winter, your hair colour can fade pretty quickly, so if you colour your hair, the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Vitamino Color Mask* is an excellent option. Resveratrol and Panthenol works to protect against colour fading, and the texture turns into a gorgeous foam that works in just three minutes to brighten and add shine. It’s fab.

Protect Hair from Heat and Stretch

I never brush through my wet hair before misting through a detangler. The L’Oréal Professionnel Serié Expert Absolut Repair Gold 10-in-1* is an absolute life saver.

As the name would suggest it’s does quite a few different things, including making the vulnerable wet hair easy to comb with minimal stress. It also gives heat protection up to 230 degrees. It is super lightweight and is great if you suffer with frizz or split ends. There’s also one for coloured hair*.

Add a hair oil into the mix

I use an oil on my hair every time I wash it, but it’s particularly important to include as part of your Winter hair care routine. The L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil* is a really special oil  that I like to layer on top of my detanglers / heat protection for enhanced nourishment and super shine.

It’s more lightweight than a lot of oils, so you can even use it on fine hair, and it’s great for taming frizz on dry hair too. Love it!!!

Choose Your Heat Wisely

It’s even more important to be careful with heat styling for your Winter Hair Care routine. You know I love my Steampod 3.0*, not only because it’s one of the only straighteners I can use to create waves, but also because it promises 78% less than regular straighteners. Plus, it creates really long lasting results so I don’t need to use it every day.
