I am sure everyone knows of Viktor & Rolf’s first fragrance creation Flowerbomb, it has become such an iconic fragrance. An explosion of flowers, hence the reference to ‘bomb’, harnessing the magic of blooms to create a beautiful, delicious and sensual fragrance. Viktor & Rolf approach perfumery as they do their haute couture collections with such creativity and by spreading a message of positive thinking. The thought of exploding blooms, petals and leaves does make me imagine swirling patterns and floating ethereal fabrics reminiscent of some of their stunning creations. Take a look at their Flowerbomb Bloom Gown from their spring/Summer 2018 collection and you will understand what I mean. With voluminous light tulle and handcrafted flowers, it is so breathtaking. Spreading beauty for sure!

Well, just in time for the warmer months the House of Victor & Rolf have now brought us an extension of the Flowerbomb franchise in the form of Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Bloom. Find it here
This fragrance is quite literally a breath of fresh air, as in addition to a cacophony of beautiful blooms and fruits it contains liquid air molecules to add a burst of freshness – oooo errr! The perfumery geek in me would love to experience how they actually do that in practice.

The fragrance is described as:

A burst of fresh flowers with subtle aerial undertones, announcing the return of spring days. In its iconic grenade shaped bottle, redesigned especially for the occasion, Flowerbomb Bloom awaits its destiny. A slender bottle triggering an unprecedented floral burst….Intense, sparkling, fresh and sensuous. In other words, surreal!

The composition is as follows:-
TOP NOTES: Pomegranate accord, bergamot oil, mandarin oil
MIDDLE NOTES: Pure air molecule, jasmine, freesia, rose
BASE NOTES: Musk, vanilla and patchouli

I adore quality packaging and Viktor & Rolf never disappoint. The bottle is beautiful with a taller, more slender, elongated grenade shape. It captures the light and refracts it creating dancing reflections and twinkles and it looks so pretty and feminine on your dressing table or bathroom shelf. The bottle is exceptionally good quality and the spray is high definition creating a very fine and luxurious fragrance mist. I love the black V&R seal logo pull-off pin at the neck of the bottle contrasting with the glass, the metal and the pink liquid inside, very classy indeed.

On first spritz I do find the fragrance sparkling, which I love, and then sweet. There is a great energy in the top notes which I find very uplifting. There is also a freshness and I find that the scent is still intense and dries down to reveal the base notes quite quickly as the sweetness mellows. It has a sensual, sexy quality.
The composition is created by Domitille Bertier who has a fantastic nose and actually provides some continuity in the production of this formulation as she has been involved in each incarnation of Flowerbomb. As a consumer and lover of fragrances and the creation process I appreciate this level of attention to detail.

Flowerbomb Bloom is available in three different sizes – 30ml, 50ml or 100ml all in an eau de toilette (EDT) formulation. Don’t let the EDT aspect deter you if you usually prefer an eau de parfum as the fragrance is still very long-lasting thanks to the base notes and is still present on the skin some six hours plus later from my experience. My tips for prepping the skin for fragrance would be to have clean skin, to moisturise the body and pop on a little extra layer of moisture on your pulse points (wrists, neck and so on) to give the volatile fragrance molecules something to cling to, this really does help with longevity and getting the most out of your fragrance, spritz- but don’t rub!

If you love Flowerbomb then this new addition is different enough with floriental explosions and bursts of freshness but it has the same beautiful base notes and is sure to please fans of the iconic original. A really enjoyable addition to anyone’s fragrance collection and a little showstopper for daytime – enjoy!
