Trussardi Donna EDT Fragrance Review

I have to admit, I’m not very adventurous with perfume. I tend to have my favourites, and stick to them – purely because scent is so intrinsically linked to memory that I find myself returning time and time again to the comforting spritz of familiar fragrances. Generally speaking though, I prefer something that’s fresh, feminine and not too sweet. Having read about the new Trussardi Donna Eau de Toilette I was intrigued to try it and see if it could be added to my list of favourite scents.

There were a lot of things about the latest Donna eau de toilette from Italian fashion house Trussardi that appealed to me: vibrant freshness, orange blossoms, chic Jasmine tea and creamy sandalwood, all said to create: ‘a surprising layered effect’ with ‘a seductive touch.’ The white, ombre-effect bottle resembles the shape of the original Donna fragrance from 2011, brought up to date with silver trim and engraved with the greyhound emblem. Both were created by Nathalie Lorson: 2015’s Perfumer of the Year, and the nose behind frgarances for Lancome, Thierry Mugler, Paul Smith and Dolce & Gabbana. Lorson says her creations tend to be less complicated formulas with natural ingredients.

Trussardi Donna Notes:
Top notes: Yuzu, citron, water fruits
Heart notes: Orange blossom, jasmine tea, water lily
Base notes: Cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, white patchouli
On first spritz, the fragrance releases a very citrusy aroma, much like a sharp lemon tart, which quickly settles into a softer, more delicate and complex fragrance with airy hints of white flowers and base notes of creamy sandalwood that adds sweetness and warmth. It’s quite an alluring combination and the layered effect we were promised is definitely there. My only reservation though is the longevity: I tried this out for a week and even on the days I sprayed it liberally it had faded by lunchtime, leaving only the faintest whiff of vanilla in its wake.
I enjoyed this scent a lot. It’s perfect for summer, is subtle and fresh, never gets too heady and its complexity makes it equally suitable for an evening out as for a day in the office. Just remember to pop it in your handbag as you’ll need to reapply!
Trussardi Donna EDT has an RRP of £40 for 30ml, £56 for 50ml and £77 for 100ml. You can find it to order online here
