I’m afraid I’ve never been into “celebrity” perfumes. Having tried some in my youth, and realising that you were buying the celebrity name, rather than a quality product, I’ve tended to give them a wide berth… until now. Sarah Jessica Parkers SJP range has actually changed my mind! We’ve featured a few SJP fragrances on ReallyRee before, today I’m focusing on SJP NYC. Find it here

First up we’ll talk about the packaging, it’s fussy but I love it! This is how I think of New York City. It’s a whirlwind of activity and the packaging reflects that. It won’t win any awards for being understated, but then neither will New York! The bottle matches the box, I say it’s a bottle but it’s not really. The bottle is actually a plain glass but it is housed within a “sleeve” to protect it. This scored big points with me. I love carrying my perfumes around for emergency top ups but always worry they will smash in my bag. This sleeve offers protection, and as you must unscrew the lid to apply the perfume you know it can’t accidentally come undone.

The perfume is described as a fruity floral mix, it features:

  • Top notes: Italian Bergamot, White Osmanthus, Wild Red Strawberries
  • Middle notes: Honeysuckles, Red Rose Damascenia, Mimosa
  • Base notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Rum, Creamy Musks

You can definitely smell the Bergamot and Strawberries on first spray. Then as that fades off you will find the other scents coming through. I have worn this every day over the past two weeks and can say it makes a great summer fragrance. It’s light and fresh and perfect for the heatwave we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy recently. I am very much a winter/ summer perfume wearer and I know I wouldn’t be reaching for this in the winter as I prefer something more musky, but if I did want to remind myself of summer days, a quick spray would bring all the memories back.

My feelings about celebrity scents have definitely changed with this product. If I had smelt this in a blind test I would never have guessed that it wasn’t a big name branded perfume. The longevity of the scent is also a plus, you can still smell it several hours later so would see you through a day/night out. SJP NYC is available to order online here
