It’s not often that you get to experience a bit of tinsel town, but last week I was lucky enough to be offered a facial by A-list facialist Nichola Joss. An industry stalwart, she devised the lymphatic drainage method of facial massage which detoxifies the face while lifting the muscles. If it’s good enough for Scarlett Johansson and Cate Blanchett it’s good enough for me, so I jumped at the chance.

Joss is an ambassador for Sanctuary Spa Skincare who have two new radiance launches; the 1 Minute Flash Facial and Revitalising Super Serum to be launched in July. Well groomed, with an enviable bone structure, Joss is very welcoming and friendly, listening to my skin concerns before talking about her cohesive approach. She tinkers with the music to get the room just right with pleasing perfectionism, talking me through each stage of the facial, making you appreciate she has a lot to teach.

Joss mentioned that she’s worked with Sanctuary for around eight years now. It’s unusual for such a long relationship to exist in the fashion and beauty world, but once she gets her hands on your face you realise why. It’s obvious which facial tribe Joss belongs to as some well needed oil massage begins. She deliciously pummels my face with a mix of lymphatic drainage and reflexology that feels deeply regenerating.

I’ve long been a proponent of facial massage; personally I carry my stress by clenching my teeth and wrinkling my brow, so intense massage across my face has always been a top stress reliever. Her fingers are dexterous and she concentrates on individual areas of stress making them relax. The additional advantages of detoxifying, boosting the skin’s immune system and anti-ageing the skin make it a no-brainer. Joss also works on pressure points and chakras. Chakras aren’t exactly my area but her holistic approach is relaxing and interesting. If you want to try it at home a brief description of what she does is included in the graphic below.

Both the new products are used during the facial – the Flash Facial clearly influenced by the Ren version for a more high street price point, while the Super Serum is a vitamin C power house. More on those in a later post, after a thorough trial as they are not released yet. The proof in the pudding starts from around three days later when my skin positively starts glowing. My cheeks are fleshy and plump.

In fact my father (a migraine sufferer) has booked himself in with one of Joss’s team; so taken was he by my story of facial pummeling that he couldn’t resist!
