Phil Smith rarely needs any introduction, but in case you’re not in the know, Phil is an award-winning hairdresser with over 30 years experience in the industry. Phil Smith Be GORGEOUS is his signature haircare line, which has been around since 2007. The lineup is one of the very few high street hair care brands to be awarded with the Leaping Bunny recognition, which I know will please lots of beauty fans. The international ‘Leaping Bunny’ programme gives consumers the peace of mind that a product complies with the most rigorous international cruelty-free standards.

Let’s get back to the products! The award winning range offers over 35 salon quality products at an affordable price. The haircare line-up has something for everyone, from colour specific treatments (Bombshell Blonde and WOW! Brunette) to other ranges including Gently Does It (for sensitive scalps), Hello Moisture (for dry hair), Big It Up! (for hair lacking volume) and my favourite, Curly Locks, a full curly hair lineup. I’ve been testing out the full curly hair lineup for the last couple of weeks and I’m here to share my thoughts on it all!
Perfecting Curl Shampoo (£3.50 for 350ml)
This is a rich shampoo which does a great job at cleansing the hair, whilst keeping it moisturised and tamed. After using this shampoo my curls are frizz-free but still feel soft and nourished. It’s a lathering shampoo, which you apply from roots to ends.
Perfecting Curl Conditioner (£3.50 for 350ml)
The conditioner is much like the shampoo, it’s a thick nourishing formula which is great for giving your hair a little boost. You simply massage the conditioner through the hair, after using the shampoo. Phil Smith suggests leaving the conditioner on the hair for two minutes before rinsing to reveal sleek, silky curls!
Perfecting Curl Spray (£3.50 for 200ml)
As the name suggests, this is a spray product that you spritz on your towel dried hair. It’s a moisturizing spritz which aims to keep frizz under control. It’s a great multi-purpose product as it helps to protect your hair from heat and it also offers some hold. I’d say this product is better for naturally curly hair, as it gives a soft hold to your curls. You definitely need a hairspray after this if your curls have a habit of dropping out.
Curl Control Cream (£4 for 100ml)
The Curl Control Cream has a little more hold that the Curl Spray, so it’s great for creating curls as well as helping natural curls. As Phil Smith says, the Curl Cream has enough staying power to hold “most rebellious hair in check”. It also keeps frizz at bay, leaving you with glossy curls. All you have to do is rub a pea-sized amount in your palms and run hands through wet hair. It doesn’t feel like a lot of product, but a little goes a long way!
You really do get value for money with this haircare range, it may not blow me out of the water, but it does what it says on the tin. Decent haircare can be hard to come by without spending a fortune, so I love that I can pick this up whilst I do my weekly food shop here!
