The Nugg Lip Mask is the first of this type of product I have tried and my first impressions were positive. As someone who suffers from chronic dry lips, I carry at least three lip balms with me at all times.  As such, I was hoping this mask would be a game-changer for me.

The box has instructions, ingredients and a visual diagram which is very helpful for first-time users of lip masks. Inside the box is the small, reflective, golden ball which houses the 7g of the actual product. It reminds me of the Golden Snitch!

Nugg Lip Mask – The Golden Snitch!

The intense lip boosting mask is 100% natural and vegan, and claims to “hydrate, soften and plump the lips”. The four ingredients are Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Liquorice Root Complex and Irish Moss Extract.

Nugg Lip Mask Details

Shea Butter and Coconut Oil are both ingredients I have experience with. They are well-known for their moisturising and softening benefits. On the other hand, Liquorice Root Complex and Irish Moss Extract are not ingredients I am familiar with. Fortunately, there is some detail on the box that explains what each ingredient does and is useful for: Liquorice Root Complex helps to plump the lips and Irish Moss Extract helps to condition the lips.

The product is formulated without petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances, sulfates and colours. Consequently, it should be suitable for sensitive skin. There is no restriction on how often it can be applied and can be used day or night as often as you like.

Nugg Lip Mask Directions For Use

To use apply a generous layer to the lips, leave for 20 minutes and then tissue off any remaining product.

The mask is very thick in consistency and after initial application it feels gloopy and starts to tingle. This is a good thing, in my opinion, as the tingling suggests something is happening. It feels sticky and tacky after a while and it tastes like toothpaste and is generally quite uncomfortable on the lips.

20 minutes is a long time, so I recommend applying this mask when you are watching TV. It doesn’t state that you shouldn’t talk whilst wearing this mask but it almost feels as if your lips are sticking together, so if you can go without talking, I would.

After using the mask my lips definitely felt softer and smoother, as if they had been exfoliated, but they did still feel dry and not completely hydrated.

In addition, they didn’t really appear plumper – truthfully the results were not exactly astounding.

I do feel you can get a similar result from a good quality lip balm without the 20 minute waiting time. The result is nice, but for me probably not worth the price.

However, I would recommend this lip mask for people who either cannot find a lip balm to work for them or those with chronically dry lips. Although the results weren’t long lasting for me, I would assume this would be a great additional step if you have an event to go to and really want to spend extra time prepping the skin for makeup. Even in the 7g tub, although small, you get a surprising amount of product which should last a few months.
