Well I have to start by saying that NIOD use the most tongue-twisting names! And apart from the fact that their products are always super effective, the unusual names make me love them even more. I am pretty obsessed with cleansing and have become instantly addicted to NIOD Sanskrit Saponins. It is amazing! Here’s the low-down.

NIOD, as a brand, believes that we, as consumers, focus too much on makeup removal rather than actually cleaning bare skin. NIOD Sanskrit Saponins has been designed to clean makeup-free skin to remove dirt, dead cells, and oils.

They believe that many of cleansing products currently available are great at removing surface dirt and makeup, but aren’t so effective when it comes to actually cleaning the pores. Apparently, in the past we used to clean our skins with plant saponins which were very effective at ‘deleting’ dirt, intensely cleaning the pores and removing oil very gently without peeling the skin.

Although we should respect the natural balance of our skins, we do need to clean this oil to encourage ‘natural recycling’ but it must be gentle so that the skin doesn’t compensate with the over-production of oils.

How to Use

NIOD Sanskrit Saponins is like nothing else I have used on my skin. It has a thick, yet airy almost puree texture which smooths over the skin really easily. I have been removing my makeup first, and then using this to gently deep clean the skin. I love the smell of it – I think it reminds me of licorice but I am not entirely sure! When I rinse it away, my skin feels so clean and really soft, and it looks calm and smooth. Most significantly, it seems to shrink my pores a bit!

It says to use it once every other day but I have been using it daily because I have become quite addicted to it. Apparently you can use it more, so I am allowing the addiction to rage on. Also, you can use like a mask, by adding a tiny bit of water to make a paste, and then applying it on to dry skin for five minutes. I did this today and loved it! My pores looked so much better after.

You need to avoid the eye area because plant saponins can be mildly irritating to the eyes, but this is only temporary if it happens. I’m told you could experience the sensation of dryness for a few minutes after use (although I haven’t) and this is because the oils have been gently removed to encourage their natural recycling. Apparently your skin will return to normal after a few minutes.

If you are after a deep clean, want to decongest skin and try something different in skincare, then I couldn’t recommend this enough. NIOD Sanskrit Saponins is £23 for 90ml. Find it HERE.
