Purely judging by their glitzy Instagram, Lottie London is fab, fab, fab. Every product has a catchy name which is fun and flirty, they love unicorns and bright colours, and they make cool graphics with giant nude lips and sparkly things. So before trying their make-up, I had high expectations.
However, I had a preconceived image of old school foundation sticks in my mind; which were tangerine orange in colour, and sticky mud-like in texture. Let’s face it, foundation sticks are rather outdated, but my initial thoughts were that I would use them to contour the hell out of my face.
Lottie London All About That Base Foundation Sticks Results
They are aptly named ‘All about that base’ – and correctly so, when contouring / baking it really is all about that base (I am subconsciously singing Megan Trainor in my mind too, don’t worry). So, using shades ‘Beige’, and ‘Golden’ I proceeded to shape my face. Admittedly they aren’t horrible and greasy like I had expected – they are rather softer in texture; but to get the best use of the sticks I would recommend using a brush. Because they are rather wide if you apply directly to your face to use for contouring lines – you won’t get great definition, because of the thickness you’ll end up with messy lines.
Moreover, if you are just using the sticks as a concealer / foundation, and as a lone product; then £7.95 would be great value as they do give a good finish. If you wish to contour with them, you’ll likely need more than one shade, and £15.90 for a lighter and darker shade to contour your face with drugstore products is not so purse friendly.
Overall I found the foundation sticks a little tricky to use at first, but in the end they do give a good base. Alongside the foundation sticks, I tried their ‘Selfie ready’ water based matte foundation. The foundation is excellent. Used in conjunction with the foundation sticks you can achieve a really flawless finish (see image). I’d say 7/10 for the foundation sticks.
