What Is Lisa Eldridge Luminist Buildable Fluid Concealer?

Luminist is a new buildable fluid concealer from Lisa Eldridge, designed to conceal, correct and brighten while keeping the skin looking like skin.

The formula contains 80% skincare ingredients and has a lightweight, serum-like texture. It is designed to give buildable coverage with a luminous, flexible finish.

Lisa describes it as a weightless formula that can be used to target areas of discolouration, redness, pigmentation and darkness, while also being buildable enough to provide more coverage where you need it.

It comes in a range of shades designed to cover both correcting and skin-tone matching needs.

My Review

The Texture

The first thing I noticed about Luminist was the texture. It genuinely feels like a serum.

It is very light and cooling when you first apply it and then becomes almost completely weightless on the skin.

It actually felt like I was applying skincare rather than concealer, which I loved. Considering that the formula contains 80% skincare ingredients, that makes perfect sense, but it is still quite remarkable how lightweight it feels.

The Coverage

The coverage is excellent. What I particularly like is how much control you have over it.

If you blend it straight away, you can sheer it out for a much lighter, more natural result. If you allow it to sit on the skin for a little while before blending, you can build it up to achieve much fuller coverage.

It is also very good at blurring pores and covering redness and hyperpigmentation.

The overall effect is very skin-perfecting, but it doesn’t look as though you’ve put a thick layer of concealer over your skin. And you really don’t need very much. A little goes a long way.

The Finish

The finish is one of my favourite things about Luminist. It gives the skin a juicy, dewy finish, but it doesn’t look wet or shiny.

There is a lovely freshness to the skin, but it doesn’t make the areas where I have pores look more obvious. Instead, it gives a very smooth, even and perfected appearance.

Shade 5 for Brightening and Correcting

Shade 5 is the shade I use towards the inner corner of my eye, where I have more darkness. It instantly brightens the area and noticeably neutralises the darkness, but without leaving the eye area looking white.

You don’t need very much at all. I also think it would work really well on its own for a no-makeup day, when you just want to brighten the eye area without applying a full face of makeup.

Shade 9 as My Skin-Tone Match

When I first looked at Shade 9, I thought it might be a tiny bit too dark for me. But once it is blended into the skin, it tones in perfectly.

This is the shade I use when I want to actually conceal rather than brighten. I’ve been using it under my eyes after Shade 5, but also around my nose, chin, smile lines and anywhere else I want to even out my skin.

I think both shades could easily be used independently, depending on what you want from your makeup that day.

Under The Eyes

Luminist has been particularly impressive under my eyes. It stays super smooth and doesn’t seem to settle into my fine lines.

It is also incredibly comfortable. There isn’t that feeling of having a layer of concealer sitting underneath my eyes, even after several hours. The finish remains flexible rather than becoming dry or rigid, which I think helps it continue to look natural.

How It Performs On My Combination Skin

I’ve been using it all over my combination skin and it has performed beautifully. I’ve used it under my eyes, around my nose, on my cheeks, chin and over areas of pigmentation and redness.

I haven’t had any problems with it becoming too shiny or breaking up, and it doesn’t look dry either. It gives me that lovely luminous finish without making my combination skin look oily.

11-Hour Wear Test

I tested Luminist for around 11 hours on my first day of wearing it. It was a very late night, so it got a pretty good workout! At the end of those 11 hours, it was still looking great.

The coverage was still there, it hadn’t become cakey and my skin still looked smooth and fresh. For something that feels this lightweight, I think that is really impressive.

Does It Need Powder?

No. Luminist dries down really nicely on its own and stays in place without powder.

I have been using powder more strategically recently, though, because I’ve found that a little powder in the right places can really improve the appearance of pores.

So I have been powdering over it, but it isn’t something you need to do to make Luminist work.

The Applicator

I really like the doe-foot. It is soft and bendy, and tapers into a finer tip, which makes it easy to apply the product precisely.

I have mainly been dotting the concealer directly onto my skin and then blending with the new Lisa Eldridge brush. The formula blends out very easily, so there is no need to spend ages working it into the skin.
