I have a real love hate relationship with dry shampoo. I would love to be able to get on with it, but as someone with dark roots, every one that I’ve tried leaves residue (no matter how much it claims not to!). So, when fellow ReallyRee contributor Tamsin suggested I try Klorane Dry Shampoo I was sceptical but open to trying.

I have long, fine hair that gets bogged down with product quickly. I have to wear my hair up for work for hygiene reasons so I try to wash it every other day as recommended to me years ago by a hairdressing friend. Lately I’ve been trying to “train” my hair to go longer without washing. However I’ve had little success as I cannot bear my hair looking and feeling greasy.

This shampoo claims to restore freshness and lightness thanks to its combination of oat milk and protective properties. It purports to extend the life of blow-outs and decrease the frequency of washing. Klorane has been active since 1971 so that’s a pretty impressive forty five years- they must be doing something right!

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is a gentle formula. The smell is lovely, not the typical “synthetic” smell that often accompanies dry shampoos. On the day it turned up my six year old son had football practice at school, so I thought I’d try it out. He will go in the bath quite happily but hates his hair being washed, so as his hair was sweaty and smelly I thought it would be a perfect test for this shampoo.

My son allowed me to try this on him as he was just pleased it didn’t involve water! The instructions advise to hold approx. 10 inches from the head, focusing as usual on the roots. You’re meant to leave it two minutes and then brush through until the powder is removed.

When I sprayed the product there wasn’t an over abundance of powder that came out of the can so it was relatively quick to brush through. Great when you’re pushed for time and so using dry shampoo in the first place.

I was very impressed with the results on my son. My husband came in from work and when he kissed our son he actually commented on how fresh his hair smelt. It was still lovely and clean a few days later so my son is definitely a fan.

I also tried it on myself. It was a lazy Sunday and I couldn’t be bothered to wash my hair as I knew I was only going to be pottering around. The lack of powder residue is definitely a big bonus. When I brushed the product through it felt like my normal hair with no white powder and no residue. This is not the way it normally feels when I use other dry shampoo brands and I can feel the residue and product build up even if I can’t see it. Having used it, even though I’m on day three of my washing cycle my hair still looks like it normally does. So, maybe this is the answer for being able to reduce my washing times. I think the gentle formulation definitely helps.

Klorane were also kind enough to send me a travel size of their mango shampoo and conditioning balm so I just wanted to add a few words about these.  The first thing to mention is the mango smell- wow! It wasn’t just my hair that smelt divine, the scent lingered on my hands for a few hours afterwards. This wasn’t too much- it hung around in a nice, non overpowering way.  The product also washed out really nicely and didn’t weigh my hair down. I will definitely repurchase the dry shampoo and I will be checking out more of Klorane’s other products too.
