I’m a big fan of Dr Alexis Granite’s bodycare brand Joonbyrd, and so the new Joonbyrd Mood Jelly collection has really piqued my interest. More recently, I’ve been drawn to skin scents and fragrances that feel a little more personal, and so the idea of a perfume you can apply directly to your skin, without spraying it into the air around you, immediately appealed to me.

The Joonbyrd Mood Jellies are solid perfumes in a refreshing jelly format, designed to be applied wherever you like to wear fragrance. They’re portable, easy to use and created around the idea of functional fragrance, with each scent intended to evoke a different mood.

There are three fragrances in the collection: Peace, Confidence and Bliss. I have the first two to try, and I’ll share my thoughts on those below. I haven’t tried Bliss yet, although the notes sound lovely.

What particularly interests me about these is the combination of fragrance, sensorial experience and skincare. Joonbyrd has developed the formula with skin health in mind, using a water-based formula and its Biotech Bacillus Ferment, while the fragrances themselves have been created around the relationship between scent and how we feel.

It’s an interesting concept, and one that feels very Joonbyrd. Here’s everything you need to know, including how the formula feels, the fragrance notes and which of the two I’ve been reaching for most.

What is Joonbyrd Mood Jelly?

The Joonbyrd Mood Jellies are water-based solid perfumes that you apply directly to your skin, rather than spraying into the air like a traditional fragrance.

I think this is a particularly clever format for anyone who enjoys a more intimate fragrance experience. If you’re travelling, out for dinner or simply want to refresh your perfume during the day, you can apply a little to your pulse points without creating a cloud of fragrance around you. It’s also a lovely option if you prefer your scent to be discovered when someone comes a little closer, rather than announcing itself from across the room.

The jelly texture makes application feel a little different, too. It’s refreshing and cooling on contact with the skin, but not so cold that it feels uncomfortable. The fragrance is noticeable straight away, making application feel like a small sensory ritual in its own right.

The Formula: Fragrance Meets Skincare

One of the things that sets the Mood Jellies apart is that the formula isn’t purely about delivering fragrance. Joonbyrd has incorporated skincare-focused ingredients, including its Biotech Bacillus Ferment, derived from thermal waters associated with the Amalfi Coast.

The brand uses this ingredient as part of its approach to helping reduce cellular skin stress. The water-based formula also includes humectants such as glycerin, which help attract and retain moisture.

I like the thought that has gone into making the formula feel good on the skin as well as smell lovely. The texture is refreshing without being excessively cold, and it feels comfortable to apply.

What Is Functional Fragrance? Understanding The Mood Connection

Functional fragrance is a term used for scents developed with a particular emotional experience or mood in mind, rather than fragrance being solely about how a perfume smells.

There’s a fascinating relationship between our sense of smell, our memories and our emotions. A particular scent can remind us of a person, transport us to a place or create an immediate feeling of familiarity and comfort. I’m sure most of us have experienced that instant connection between a smell and a memory.

Joonbyrd has taken this idea into the Mood Jelly collection, creating fragrances around different emotional intentions. Peace is designed to evoke calm, Confidence is associated with self-belief, and Bliss is intended to feel uplifting.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, or chemical messenger, involved in regulating mood, sleep and appetite, among other functions. The brand’s mood-led approach draws on the science of how fragrance and the brain interact.

I think the appeal is more personal than that. Fragrance can be part of a ritual, a way of taking a moment for yourself or choosing a scent that reflects how you want to feel. And if a particular fragrance makes you feel calmer, happier or more confident when you apply it, that’s a lovely thing in itself.

My Review Of Joonbyrd Mood Jellies

Peace Mood Jelly

My favourite of the two. It genuinely feels like a hug in fragrance form.

I absolutely love Peace. Violet is one of my favourite fragrance notes, so it was always likely to appeal to me, but there’s something about the whole composition that makes this feel particularly special.

Violet gives it a clean, delicate floral quality, while orris, which comes from the iris root, adds a soft, powdery, almost velvety character. I love the combination because it feels beautifully understated. It’s floral without being overly sweet, and there’s a lovely skin-like quality that makes it feel intimate rather than perfumey.

The warmth comes from cacao, vetiver and cedarwood. Cacao adds a subtle creamy richness, vetiver brings an earthy, grounding quality, and cedarwood gives the fragrance a soft, woody base.

Together, these notes create something that feels clean, warm and incredibly comforting. It’s not a heavy fragrance, but it has enough depth to stop it from feeling fleeting or one-dimensional.

Honestly, the name Peace feels spot on to me. There’s something about smelling this that makes me think of being wrapped up in a soft blanket, or having a proper hug from someone you love. It has that reassuring, cocooning quality without being too sweet or powdery.

I also love how it works in this format. Applying a little to my pulse points feels like a small moment of calm during the day, and I can enjoy the fragrance without spraying it into the surrounding air.

If you love violet, soft iris notes and warm, understated woods, I think Peace is a beautiful combination. It’s the one I’d reach for when I want something clean, comforting and quietly lovely.

Confidence Mood Jelly

Sweeter, fruitier and a little punchier than Peace, but still wonderfully comforting.

Confidence has a different personality. There’s a touch of peach that gives the fragrance a sweeter, fruitier opening, but it isn’t a sugary, one-dimensional fruity scent. The notes underneath add plenty of interest.

Oakmoss brings an earthy, green quality, saffron adds warmth and a subtle spiced character, and ambroxan gives it a modern, warm, skin-like finish.

I really like the balance. The peach gives it a little brightness, while the oakmoss, saffron and ambroxan stop it from becoming too sweet. It’s still a comforting fragrance, but it has more presence than Peace and feels slightly bolder.

If Peace is the equivalent of being wrapped in a blanket, Confidence is that same comforting feeling with a little more energy behind it. It’s a lovely option for when you want something that feels reassuring but has a bit more personality.

The idea behind Confidence is to evoke self-belief and a more empowered feeling. I can see this being a lovely fragrance to keep in your handbag and apply before a meeting or any occasion when you fancy a little sensory pick-me-up.

Of course, fragrance affects everyone differently, and I wouldn’t suggest that wearing this will automatically make you more confident or increase your serotonin levels. But there’s something to be said for finding a scent you associate with feeling good, and I love the idea of making that part of your everyday routine.
