It is always very exciting when Jo Malone launches a brand new fragrance and this new one is an addition to their Cologne Intense range, which I absolutely love. Here’s the lowdown on Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla.
The brand’s Cologne Intense collection offers up deeper, richer, headier scents – just how I like them.
Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Notes
I am a huge fan of Vetiver in fragrance. It is earthy and woody, and often features in men’s fragrance. It has a very sexy, rough and ready edge to it. I love the idea of Vetiver being combined with the sweetness and warmth of vanilla, so I was so excited to smell this.
- Top notes – cardamom and grapefruit tea
- Heart note – vetiver
- Base note – vanilla bourbon
I have to say, I liked this new fragrance from the very first spritz. I adore Vanilla if it’s not too sickly sweet, and the Vetiver gives it the edge it needs to stop it tipping over into cupcake!
This combination makes Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla a good candidate to be a unisex fragrance. The warm vanilla softens out the tradtional masculinity of the Vetiver, and in turn the Vetiver toughens up the Vanilla. I really feel that this would appeal to both men and women for those very reasons. Plus, it’s just a really lovely, smooth, warm and sensuous scent. It is a real win for me.
It actually reminds me of one of my all time fave fragrances, the super sensual and musky Boucheron Vanille de Zanzibar (review here). I always get compliments on that one.
What to layer it with
If you’re a Jo Malone London fan, you’ll know that they are big believers in fragrance combining. Personally I think this is stunning on its own, but they suggest pairing it with Blackberry & Bay, Black Cedarwood & Juniper or English Oak & Hazelnut.
